I'm new to home wine making, and have been a big fan of Ficklin Tinta Port for several decades. Naturally I'm curious how some Portuguese varietals would do here in east/central Oklahoma.
I have found on the UC Davis grape registry the varieties that I am interested in trying; Souzao, Tinta Cao, Tinta Madeira and Touriga.
I'm thinking of starting with 5 of each. I believe it would be wise to graft them onto root stock.
Does anyone have any advise, or should I stick to more local varieties like Muscadine & Niagara... Any and all input is appreciated!
