I have an old chest freezer sitting down stairs I am storing my wine in milk crates in it. Still works just not in use. Also put my gal primary in it to age. Do you think the wine will keep better in that. It's kinda nice I can close it keeps cats out don't have to worry about them messing with my stuff

Sounds like a good setup... it might make it hard to check the progress though? And when you need to rack you'll be removing from the freezer which could stir up the lees. Just something to think about.

Could potentially be a harboring ground for molds if not kept clean/dry.

Read the part about cold stabilization. You will need an external thermostat. good ones cost near $100 but you can get one for about $20 at amazon.
