    Can this be Salvaged?

I've gone back to re-reading a lot of stuff about wine making Rice_Guy and some things are again falling into place. Thanks for your comments. Since I've re-read stuff and my notes from 2022 and if my calculations are correct, this batch of Blackberry Wine is running around 13%(%Vol.) Had a...

    Can this be Salvaged?

Thank you for enlightening me re the kmeta. Ihave gone back to the site Beginners' Wine Making Forum ;ike you suggested; of course I had read it before, but it is just what I needed now to get clear about a lot of things. Of course, some of the things I remembered, but I definitely needed this...

    Can this be Salvaged?

Thanks for the reply. I have to ask what is kmeta and do you add it a day before racking or??? Seeing that my hydrometer reading today was 0.988, does that not mean there is no alcohol in this batch? And, yes, everything was air locked and I was surprised that the air locks still had the water...

    Can this be Salvaged?

Back to wine making after accident and sickness. First day back and checked the blackberry wine I started Sep 2022. Last time I did anything with it was near the end of Nov 2022 when I was transferring the wine into fresh containers. The first thing I did today was take the specific gravity and...

    Racking

Thanks everyone! Your information is SO HELPFUL! I did a fair amount of reading before trying my hand at this, but your comments, answers and examples are so valuable. Thanks ever so much!

Thanks for your advice. Yeah, I have lots of organic petals. Last summer I picked mature roses and froze the petals; this year I've been drying the rose petals from buds just beginning to open. So I certainly have a lot of petals to use up so I can easily top up with a strong tea. Now I will...

    Racking

I did my primary fermentation in one Imperial gallon jug. Next time I intend to use one of my food safe buckets since air is good during the primary fermentation. Thanks.

You suggest adding kmeta; would you mind to expand on that as I don't even know what it is. Should I be adding kmeta now or do you leave that for the last time yoy rack it. If you use kmeta, but want the finished product to be clearer still, can you add more?

So, the yeast neeeds oxygen in the first stage..... should the primary fermentation be stired everyday? This need for oxygen rules out using jugs with narrow necks for the primary fermentation; is that correct?

What FUN!! After reading everyone's comments last night I decided to transfer rather than racking at this time. My reasoning was this could be a dry run, a time to explore using the equipment new to me and a time to settle some of the issues I will face when I do rack. I learned a lot and made...

Thanks Vinny for your answers.... now I know why that first hydrometer reading is important.

No fruit this time. It is rose petal wine and it was just fermenting like crazy, however there now is a time lapse og seven seconds between the 'burps'. The recipe I followed called for steeping the petals like one would do for a tea and then straining the petals away before adding anything...

    Hi everyone!

Just introducing myself as a new member.... I'm from British Columbia, Canada and am taking my first steps into winemaking. I don't know how serious I will be in this venture; so far I view it as fun, but reading some of the forums are rather mind stretching. It will be a great hobby now that I...

Thanks for your reply. Now I'll give racking a go and will study the liquor store before I begin my second batch.... whatever that may be. This is an exciting hobby.... and especially fun. Thanks again.

    Racking

Am racking my first try at winemaking today. I'm dealing with one gallon that is ending it's primary fermentation and was planing on racking into a second gallon container for secondary fermentation, but of course by leaving the junk behind, my "wine" will not come close to filling this second...
