    Pumpkin wine questions

https://www.winemakingtalk.com/threads/pumpkin-frankenwine.66863/ Check my notes for a start. It worked out for me.

    Pumpkin FrankenWine

It has been a year and a month. This wine making teaches patience, right. I waited until this spring to put the campden tablets in it. I let every last molecule of sugar get eaten by the yeast. I tasted the FrankenWine at the beginning of October and thought it was like licking the spice rack...

    Is there a better way?

All this work to recycle, I should have just thrown them all in a glass smelter or whatever they call it and made my own.

    Is there a better way?

So should I Vinegar soak, rinse well with water, then do the Star San dip and dry?

    Is there a better way?

So I think I will try the Vinegar solution overnight and see if it comes off. Then dip them in Star San and hang them out to dry to evaporate anything volitile. I attached a picture of the bottle tree my dad made for Christmas. If you put it out on my back patio on a 90 degree day they should...

    Is there a better way?

I did find a thread in a Home Brew Forum about someone that had the same problem. Apparently Oxyclean with Hard Water, we don't have a water softener, leave a film of minerals. So you could be on to something with the Jet Dry route. Another solution was to use Vinegar/Water solution but scared...

    Is there a better way?

Trying to recycle bottles I read on a forum to use OxyClean to remove the Labels. Not having a guide line I used label directions only halved the amount and then diluted it even more. Like 5 scoops for 10 gallons. It did work and the labels are off. The problem is there is now a white film on...

    Welch's White Grape Concentrate

Walmart squeezes companies for price so much they have a hard time making money. Good for the consumer. I try to support local grocery as much as I can. They pay taxes and support the little leagues. If you buy in quantity the local grocery can sometimes get you a price break too.

    Pumpkin FrankenWine

In pulled the spice bag last night. I did pull the ginger 2 weeks ago, and forgot to report that. I sampled the wine after letting it breath for an hour and it tasted amazing. Maybe I let the bag sit in there too long or maybe the flavor will fade over time. It tasted pretty good after I put a...

    Wild Plum Ideas

I appreciate the link and found lots of recipes but have not spoken to anyone that has made it. I have only seen people make jelly out of these things. I did find a great place to harvest them... Huge patch.

    Wild Plum Ideas

I picked a big 5 gallon bucket full of wild plums at the end of the season and need to get a batch of wine going with them. Any good recipe's or advice on what do do with them. I soaked them in water and changed the water a couple times, stemmed and froze them in zip locks. I did not pit them...

    Pumpkin FrankenWine

Tried the wine again and it had just a hint of spice. So I will let it steep some more. When I sample I taste it first and then add some sugar and taste again, then let it set 10 minutes and taste again. I get something different each time, but the flavor is not where I want it yet.

    Apple Cider $7.00 / Gallon

Ok thanks, I did do a one gallon test recipe this year with some Musselmans Cider from the store. I used about the same ingredients as above only i used 2lbs per gallon and did it in the glass jug. I did one recipe with brown sugar and one with white. I liked the white better, the brown had more...

    Apple Cider $7.00 / Gallon

Anyone have a recipe for already pressed apple juice into wine? I found the orchard that presses to order here in Nebraska.

    Pumpkin FrankenWine

I tasted the FrankenWine last night and it was very dry and acidic. Then i added a bit of sugar to my sample and WOW it tasted good. Amazing what that does. Getting hints of the spice but nothing huge so far. Will keep steeping the spice bags.

    Pumpkin FrankenWine

I bet using canned would be just as good as me cooking pumpkins and digging the meat out. Less work. I did see one recipe where they simmered the canned pumpkin with sugar and spice to sort of caramelize it and get the flavors cooked in with the spices. I am always scared of sediment because i...

    Pumpkin FrankenWine

Peppercorns sound interesting. I just read an article on substituting 'Chinese Five Spice' for Pumpkin Pie spice in Pie. I was wondering what effect that would have on a fruit wine, cider, or even if i try this pumpkin spice wine again. The beets sound good but I may try a spicy apple wine to...

    Pumpkin FrankenWine

Thanks Erin, that is one reason I did separate the ginger but I am glad you reaffirmed my thought process. You are right ginger can be powerful or I thought it could start to rot if i left it too long. As for the Apple/Cranberry, my wife said I should try to make a cranberry wine for...

    Pumpkin FrankenWine

The fermenting has pretty much stopped itself. You can see the SG reading below so it must have gone through all the sugar. I found some cold brew coffee bags for the spices. They are pretty much like big tea bags with a draw string. The wife likes cold brew coffee so she was excited that I got...
