    Post a photo, any photo

I saw this dog on a 750 mile bicycle ride in France. Don't know if the dog made it to the end.

Pre wash Dishwashing machines work better when the dishes are pre cleaned. This is our household's method. It's best to have a dishwasher with a strong door.

Oley PA pie It's hard to find a good pizza close to home here in hill billy land so I make my own.

    Easter Story (with apologies)

A man is driving along a highway and sees a rabbit jump out across the middle of the road. He swerves to avoid hitting it, but unfortunately the rabbit jumps right in front of the car. The driver, a sensitive man as well as an animal lover, pulls over and gets out to see what has become...

    De-labeling

Most of the time the labels I face come off with soaking. But there is this one brand "Gnarly Head" (go figure) that doesn't come off after days of soaking. Scraping them leaves a gluey mess. Then someone mentioned heating the label in the oven which seemed like a bit of overkill so I just...

    To Zork or not to?

If you're going to pursue wine making you will eventually buy the floor corker. Eat the cost now, you won't regret it. Plus, it is fun pushing the corks in and pulling them out. JOe

    New guy question

It's a great wine to practice on because it only costs about $13.00 to make. You can develope your racking skills without fear of an expensive mistake. Don't forget to add pectic enzyme prior to the ferment. It helps with the clearing. Joe

    Here it comes again!

You folks who live in upper state NY are lucky to have personnel who can remove snow and ice. A friend of mine from Buffalo justs laughs at the ineptitude of snow removal in south eastern PA. And they are running out of salt. The utilities don't do so well any more either. Today's appliance...

    Here it comes again!

SE Pennsylvania is having an ice storm Woke this morning to ice. Since I have a 35 mile commute I bagged work and decided to rack wine using a pump. The power went off right in the middle of the rack so had to finish with the auto siphon and a head light (on my head) cause I'm in a basement...

    Brew Belt Qustions

You can use multiple belts on one controller but... You can use multiple belts on one controller but with only one bucket will provide feedback. Right now in my basement I have one bucket Dragon's Blood and one bucket Skeeter Pee. The thermowell is in the Dragon's Blood because it is the...

What to do with my top off bottle?

I know just what you mean. I have the same problem in my basement. What I do, your mileage may vary, is top off and then look over my left shoulder, and then right shoulder, poor it into a glass and stop just before the sediment starts to creep in, and drink it. Why waste wine? Because like...

    Brew Belt Qustions

I use a thermowell, temperature controlller, and a fermwrap heater. Setting a temperature of say 73 degrees produces a surface temperature of 73 degrees (as measured by plastic temperature strips) and 73 degrees in the center of the liquid (as measured by the thermowell measured by the...

    Kieselsol & Chitosan

RJ Spagnols kit instructions state "Add Kieselsol to wine and stir one minute. Then add Chitosan and stir well. Important: Do not reverse the order of Kieselsol and Chitosan." It's a kit, they never explain why. Joe

WineXpert WE selection Italian Pinot Grigio bulk aging

WE kits have you add bentonite, a clearing agent, in the primary. Bentonite is clay and will drop out over time. Isinglass or chitosan, like bentonite, is a clearing agent, and will help in clarifying, including getting rid of the bentonite. It enables you to bottle earlier. Stick with the...

    Fast Rack?

I'm not a good 3 dimensional thinker. Having said that, it looks to me that it would be more stable than the standard bottling tree. Must all bottles in the the Fastrack system be the same height?

    2 questions on Dave's DB

Dragon's Blood is a variation of Skeeter Pee which is a hard lemonade made from Real Lemon. Dragon's Blood is blueberry, blackberry, raspberry, and Real Lemon. Skeeter Pee is just Real Lemon. Dave's recipe : http://www.winemakingtalk.com/forum/f2/dangerdaves-dragon-blood-wine-41825/ Joe

    2 questions on Dave's DB

The third ingredient of Real Lemon is "Sodium Metabisulphite". This is the reason why it can be hard sometimes to get fermentation going.
