Hi all, I'm about to try my first non kit batch, the 1 gallon recipe with Welches concentrate. I've ordered all the chemicals and such mentioned in the recipe. Couple of questions: 1. Do I need any test equipment? 2. The recipe calls for adding sugar to the concentrate right away, however...

I was a contractor at Dr Pepper, and this is true. They try and keep the shelf life to under 6 months. At their corp offices you will see some sitting out for decoration. It's not unusual for one of those to just break when touched. Of course, colas are much harsher that a wine.
