Using vinegar while making sugar blocks. (bee food)

I figured this was the best place to post this question.. I need to make some bee food. It calls for apple cider vinegar. I need to oven dry the sugar blocks before I put it on the hives. Do I need to worry about turning my still fermenting wine into vinegar while the sugar blocks dehydrate...

    Pre frement K-menta OD

Pre ferment K-menta OD I big think I have blundered big time....In my haste to get a variety fruit wine started I must have not washed all of the K-menta out of the primary. As I stirred the rest of the ingredients in I did notice a strong smell of it. I already had the yeast re-hydrated so I...

Lalvin EC 1118 Creating Thick Syrupy Foam?

If what you mean is a one gallon jug with a narrow top you may (will) have a problem with your must coming out of the top. EC1118 has always made for a large cap on the top of anything that I have used it for. My opinion is that you get it out of the one gallon carboy/jug and into a food grade...

    Not quite honey

Deezil, as a rookie (newbee) beekeeper ......when I fed the bees sugar water in the spring they stored it as if it was nectar. I didn't realize that I pulled the super off that I had on during the time I was feeding and extracted it. So it it mostly sugar. It does have a hint of honey taste...

    first attempt with wild grapes

As a newbee I didn't have a clue what it would taste like. I do know now that like Elderberries it has a strong flavor. Your choice to make a port= good call! I'm looking forward to experiment with the "free" grapes next year. Steve

    Not quite honey

I have a bit over 2 gallons of sugarwater/honey that i extracted this fall. I cannot sell it as honey and it's too late to feed it back to the bees. I was thinking of making a mead. Have any of you used not quite honey as a base? if so what adjustments to a recipe did you make? When i tasted...

    first attempt with wild grapes

How's this going wood? We started ours batches (two different 2.5 gallon recipes) about the same time as you. One finished very quickly and the other not so fast. I am pleasantly surprised how good they taste. Kinda wished we picked more when we had the chance. Steve

    Used wrong yeast

At this point we would need to know exactly how you prepared your must. What did you add to it and when. Also temp of the must Steve

White stuff in the bottom and sides of carboy

I believe that is just more settling, it often happens after degassing. For the stuff stuck on the sides. Using a twisting motion, give the carboy a 1/4 or a 1/2 turn. that will loosen it so it will settle to the bottom. Steve

What would you do if you won the lottery?

For starters, Prior to clocking out of my current job for the last time. I would find thank each and every person that it was a pleasure to work with for the last 22 years. Then I would find and tell the remaining people how I really feel about them. :) I haven't given it much thought after...
