    Adventures with Kazkat

Welcome! You'll quickly become addicted...I think I've started a wine or two every week since I started in March 😆

    What R you doing today?

So I've finally got a 'bigger bucket' and made the 30 bottle wine kit that my brother bought me for my birthday, we have nicknamed it 'The Big Boy' and he has agreed to taking 10 bottles regardless of how it tastes...he's a chef, so I know what that means 😆 I also bought some first season...

    What R you doing today?

Omgosh! Speedy recovery to you. As a kid I witnessed my dad go through this many times, so I know it's so painful! Funny story though and glad to see you still keeping your good humour 🤣

I enjoy making infusions so thank you for this!

    Polish Syrups

I'll definitely use more next time and look up step feeding, I feel it might need more flavour. On the plus side it's fermenting well already!

    Polish Syrups

So I went ahead and made it today. I used a bottle and a half, added sugar to reach 1.090. You're right, it did taste 'thin' so I'm thinking I might add some raspberries in secondary? and I have the left over syrup to backsweeten later. It's a cheap enough experiment!

    Polish Syrups

As I've got more confident I have a few wines and meads on the go made with actual fruits and vegetables. I have also been purchasing wine kits as they can be finished quickly and enjoyed while my other brews are ageing and clearing. The kits are fairly expensive I guess at £16 for a 6 bottle...

Caraway Wine - I'm going for it!

We have amazing farmers markets here, more expensive than the stores but when I make anything I prefer to use good seasonal produce. One day I hope to move onto more challenging wines! I'm definitely awaiting seasonal rhubarb from my sister in laws allotment, and she will await some bottles of...

Caraway Wine - I'm going for it!

Wow how interesting! I love caraway in everything but it has never occurred to me that it would be suitable for wine...but then again I've never thought about tomato wine either 😆

    White Spots😬

So I decided just to rack it into another clean demi and add a Campden tablet, the PH level was OK. On the plus side it smelled and tasted pretty good for only being 3 weeks old! Fingers crossed it will be OK, thanks for the comments 👍

Struggling to find bulk lemon juice in the UK, will this work?

How much are you looking to use? I had the same problem and ended up buying this from Amazon...not cheap but I could find anything else without additives, its about 1.2 ltrs for £12!

    White Spots😬

Thank you for the prompt response! I will observe what happens over the next few days. If something bad is happening I'm sure it will grow back.

    White Spots😬

Hi! I made 2 gallons of Dragons Blood which has been racked into two demijohns, I used Campden tablets and stabilised. They have been sitting for a week now. One has been acting differently, there are tiny bubbles still rising (which I assume is just degassing) and today I noticed small white...

Post a Meme, any Meme! (no politics)

My brother bought me a present yesterday, I'm a complete newbie so have minimal equipment right now, it was a wine kit that makes 30 bottles of wine!! This was me when I opened it...

    Strolling in from the UK...

I had to Google that one! I'd eat it, it sounds like a Shepherd's Pie so I could probably bastardize that too 🤣

    Strolling in from the UK...

We don't usually use condensed soups in recipes here, my first experience was at my first Thanksgiving dinner in Alabama. Green Bean Casserole...condensed mushroom soup, tinned green beans and tub of fried onions, right? I found it delightful as I have a high tolerance of salty foods! But in...

    cherry cognac

We lived in Germany when I was a kid and parents were really into making Rumtopf.I managed to knock one off the countertop one day in the height of summer...there was great sadness mixed with wasps and panic but it smelled amazing!
