Planning for small vineyard in southern Arizona

Thanks for the recommendations. I'll have to read through that article a little more thoroughly when I get a chance. I'm also wondering if I'm on the right track with watering. I have two 1 GPM drip emitters per vine spaced about a foot away on either side and I'm running them for 90 minutes...

I just picked up some of the Hoss Micro-Boost micronutrients. Is this an okay time to water those in?

Not much yet but off to a good start. Seven Syrah and three Grenache Noir just outside of Tucson, AZ.

I was a little concerned about that too. I'm working on making my whole backyard rattlesnake proof for my dog though which would also keep the rabbits out so I should be able to remove the wire pretty soon. In the meantime I'll just check frequently to make sure nothing is growing through the wire.

The worst thing that could happen to a winemaker.

I read about a winemaker in France who accidentally crushed his own head in his wine press. I'd say that's a worse thing that could happen to a wine maker. Just sayin... 😬

Planning for small vineyard in southern Arizona

Well I appreciate all of the info from everyone. Do I need to add anything to the soil before planting or would these nutrients all just want to be watered in or sprayed on the vines after planting? My plan for the soil was to run my auger and loosen up the dirt in a couple foot diameter area...

Ah, I see that now. I've never really messed with any of this stuff before so I didn't know what I was looking at.

What would be the best method to incorporate these into my soil? Also, what amount of everything should be added?

Planning for small vineyard in southern Arizona

I ordered my vines yesterday. I ended up ordering 7 Syrah and 3 Grenache vines both on 1103P. All they had available in that variety was green potted vines. I'm wondering when the best time to plant them would be. I'm thinking maybe mid April? I've read that green vines are usually planted...

I don't know where I got the idea that Novavine had a minimum order of 25 vines but I finally got someone on the phone there and she said there is no minimum and they might even possibly be able to get me some Grenache vines on 1103P. Sounds like I should be in business.
