Did my Summer royals give its life to give me grapes?

Lol, a little dramatic title but my Summer Royals did an awesome job of not only providing very sweet table grapes, but it probably put out the most grapes of all my varieties. This year I was going to give it a break and let it work on trunk growth since its only 2 seasons old(this would have...

Second round at guessing this vine

Last season I only had a bud break when asking if anyone knew the variety. Now that it’s gone a full cycle, I’ve posted more clues to assist in identifying what it is. Btw, this isnt a riddle, I ready don’t know what it is, I just know what its not. It’s not as the nursery labeled stated, a...

    What do you think?

The first picture is my Thompson vine, I’m using the basic VSP set up. I’ll be cane pruning to 2 buds right after last frost. I’m soliciting opinions on the second picture. It‘s a Cab-Sav, I’d like to bring the “head” up closer to the lower VSP line as with the Thompson vine. The red line in the...

    Last Frost and Pruning

As I drive down the countryside I see some vineyards have started pruning. They may also just be pruning excess. I also see Pecan trees being pruned. I’m in the El Paso, NM border so of course we get warm weather sooner. My question is for your particular area when do you begin to prune?

    Who’s been experiencing 100+ weather?

And what is your watering schedule?

    Too Early?

These are my Black Mannukas starting the veraison process. Is it too early for this? In my experience up north if this happens before my others they tend to turn into raisins quick. We’ve had 100degree weather for the last 2 or 3 weeks. I water twice a week ( Sun & Thurs) 2gal per hr system for...

    It’s coming along

Mission accomplished on the ambiance. My goal was to drape the vines over the fence like we had back home where I grew up. Now, we’ll see if I get decent sized great tasting table grapes.

    Backyard Accents

While not feasible for a vineyard, why not for a backyard? I got tired of my plastic nursery tags going missing so I had an idea. At $6 a piece it was no financial hardship but boy did it add a touch of class to my yard. Well, at least my wife and I think so and isn’t that what counts? Decided...

When is too much too much?

I know I’m supposed to do some cluster thinning, but when is too much too much? What I mean by that is, do I thin now so that the others can grow plump? or do I thin later to see which ones specifically need to be thinned out? Btw, these are Summer Royals.

Stop by the 1 Dog Ranch

Just wanted to show you guys my place. We had the house built July 2018, and I’m looking to wrap my yard perimeter with grape vines. While I’m at it I figured I may as well learn how to grow great table grapes, thanks for stopping by.

    Help needed

I went from drip system to sprinkler system for my backyard grapes (9 vines in all ). In just a day or two my Thompsons are showing what I believe is water stress. My Venessa and Cab-Sav look fine. I decided to go back to the drip system. El Paso’s weather is starting to transition to averages...

    Looks Promising

Since I'm committed to waiting until my fourth year to harvest grapes I went and pulled these off. Seems to me this vine is ready to provide a good amount if all conditions are good next year.

    Am I on track?

This is one of my Thompson vines that seems to be out pacing the others ( not that the others are doing bad, they’re fine). I just want to stay a step ahead. My Thompsons are going into their second year in my backyard, I bought them about a foot tall. My PH is 7, my drip system is a 2gal per hr...

Can anyone tell me what grapevine variety this is?

When I picked this up as a young vine I believe it had a Thompson tag on it. I’ve since misplaced it and not really sure if it was a Thompson. It’s the only one I have with a rose color to it. My other Thompsons all budded and leaved 100% green. Also, since it’s the only wirey type I was open to...

Joining the group Take II ...

Greetings all, I joined the group back in Aug when I had just bought my house. My set up was lacking at best and stumbling through the process. So here’s my second take in joining conversations on this topic. I’m now in a better place In reference to setting up my vision. I’ve watched...

    Hello, From El Paso

In Brief the military sent me to FT Bliss TX from Long Island NY. Now I’m a Cowboy in training, name is Ricky2Guns ( or just Rick).
