    Grape/Juice sources

I'm looking to make a Port. I'd rather not use a kit. Instead I'd rather source some grapes or juices. Anyone have an idea where I might be able to purchase Tinta Cão, Bastardo or any of the recommended black grape varieties for Port or juice from the same? Thanks Anthony

    Wine body

I guess it's the noob in me, but I'm wondering about wine body. Until I started my own wine this never occurred to me. When one pours a Merlot or Pinot Noir or some other hearty red, the wine is very dark. In fact the body would pass for grape juice if one didn't know it was wine. I'm...

ALLINONEWINEPUMP Customer Service is the Bomb!!! I'm rely looking forward to getting my pump I ordered today. About two weeks ago I called and talked to Steve regarding the pump. I wasn't sure if I was going to order one since I have an AC vacuum pump that I was considering re-purposing...

    Fermenting at 68-72° F

For the most part my house stays between 68-72° F ten months out of the year. When we go to bed, we set the thermostat at 68°. When we are awake it's set at 72°. I'm wondering if this is a good temperature to ferment Dragon's Blood and it's derivatives. Or, should I consider a warming belt...

Any ideas for a lime based tropical wine?

I'm thinking something tropical. Lime juice, orange juice, pomegranate juice, pineapple, mango, papaya (not so sure), coconut (maybe just a hint). I'm even thinking of adding some spices like cardamon, ginger, cinnamon. Any ideas? Has anyone done something like this before?

New at this and was wondering what the experts thought.

I'm making my first batch of wine. It's a batch of peach/mango fruit wine. http://www.winemakingtalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=49467 I'm thinking it is going fine. But, since this is my first batch I was hoping for some comments so I know if I doing this correct. On 4/11/2015 at 18:20 PM...

    ph Testing

I've come to realize I need a reliable way to test ph. I've looked at some ph meters on Amazon, but for the most part the reviews suck. It seems most of the handheld units are impossible to accurately calibrate and usually die within a few months to less than a year. I'm thinking test strips...

Spread sheet to calulate sugars in fruit

Attached is an excel spreadsheet. Conversions are not my strong suit. I'd be more than happy to have someone proof read it. Basically, my goal is to create a spreadsheet that I can plug amounts of fruit puree into that shows how much sugar is in the puree. This way one can take that into...

    DIY Stir Plate

This weekend I plan to start a batch of Peach Mango wine. But, I though I would start a yeast culture first. But, I didn't have a stir plate. The rare earth magnet is glued on with epoxy. Can't wait for it to dry so I can try it out.

    Hello for Baton Rouge Area

Hello everyone. My name is Anthony. I'm from the Baton Rouge, LA area. About 20 years ago, a friend and I decided to brew some beer. Needless to say, it didn't work out so well (yes it was beer, yes we got hammered drinking it, yes we were massively hung over afterwards). Fast forward...
