March 2014 Wine of the Month Club

Well sweet! I am still hella new to wine making with my first batch still finishing up. That being said, this wine will be most likely pretty wild. Here are the ingredients I have although I'm still working on the amounts. 5 cups Frozen Dark Sweet Cherries 15 oz coconut juice with pulp 50...

It was a bit of a confusing recipe we acquired but basically it included lots of gourmet syrup (the most expensive and awesome looking one we could find) and the usual stuff. Also, lol on that Thor comment. Sent from my iPhone using Wine Making

Wine racked! Will probably start a new thread when I finish and taste it but check it out. The other carboy is a maple syrup stout we just put into secondary as well. Lost my second bung so here is the ghetto rig we got goin on the wine. Being the astute college kids we are, we didn't fret...

    Newbie on the loose

Okay I'm racking my wine in a bit tonight. I used the coat hanger trick to make a degasser and have a drill. What I plan on doing is first degassing the wine in the original container and then transferring to the Carboy using an auto siphon. I have potassium sorbate for stabilizer and a 2...

You got some sweet brews (or what's the wine making term) going on man and thanks for the advice. Took a trip to the store to get all that, btw where do you buy your kits from or do you get the ingredients yourself? Sent from my iPhone using Wine Making

Well damn this winemaking really ain't that bad, in fact I think I might like it better than brewing although I've done each only once Sent from my iPhone using Wine Making

So if I have an auto siphoning hose and just siphon it to the secondary container that is considered degassing? Sent from my iPhone using Wine Making

So for me, just taking the lid off everyday and stirring it with a sanitized spoon should be good? Sent from my iPhone using Wine Making

Wow so you don't put the bubbler on until the first rack? And the wine doesn't get messed up being exposed at all? Interesting, I brewed beer once and that bubbler went on right away. Hopefully this is my last question but how often should it be stirred? Sent from my iPhone using Wine Making

Okie doke, I'm removing the airlock and putting a towel over the lid which is just laying not latched on. When should I, if at all, put in the airlock or is that only when I rack it. Also, for racking, could someone put the process and timing in laymen's terms for me? Thanks fo real dough...

Yeah see that's what I'm unsure of! Just finished and have it like this, should I just take out the airlock and lay a paper towel over it? (And yes that's a Ferrero Rocher chocolate on top for good luck) Sent from my iPhone using Wine Making

Yup...we figured it out now... and thanks by the way. I feel pretty dumb but it was 1.06 not 1.6 Sent from my iPhone using Wine Making

Yo so my hydrometer is reading 1.6 after adding fruit juice, grape pulp, and honey. Is this a normal reading? I thought it had to be 1.09 before adding yeast, any thoughts? Sent from my iPhone using Wine Making

I'll have to read some more on degassing before I get there but I also was curious about the air plug and all. I read that some people don't necessarily put in the airtight plug right away. Is this true? I was planning on plugging as soon as I finished making it today. Sent from my iPhone...
