    RJ Spagnols Super Tuscan

Yeah pretty much, my primary is measured at 6gal, 22.7L. I’m pretty sure I just left more sediment juice behind this time around. I’m not too concerned, usually I only have one bottle or so of head space left at clearing. But as you said, I’ll still be able to drink it! Haha

    RJ Spagnols Super Tuscan

All in all pretty good! Got down to .995sg. Had quite a bit of head space, I had to use about 1.5-2 liters of wine at clearing to fillup the carboy. Going to rack every few months and it’s let it sit awhile.

And it’s pretty common to not use the potassium sorbate in dry wines? Only use the sulphite?

Moving Into stabilizing and clearing today. After degassing etc...do you guys top off with a similar wine or water? There’s going to be a good amount of head space.

Yeah I don’t know either. Is 2L going to effect the final product? I’m not an expert. Just doing it for fun! But I also wanted to try something new. I didn’t look, but I still have the box and paper, I’ll look when I get back home. That does seem like some false advertising imo

I was debating the two also. I went with rjs, I think the only reason was juice content. The new WE kits didn’t have as much as rjs if I remember. I could be wrong. And someone here suggested it as a great kit

Im pretty patent, looking forward to trying this in a year or so!

    RJ Spagnols Super Tuscan

Great suggestions! It’ll be tricky siphoning. Usually with other kits I’ve done after 2nd ferm, I let it bulk age awhile, few racks In between. Did not know about the potassium sorbate. Good to know. What would you suggest for second ferm? Any SG I’m looking for or time frame? Any...

    RJ Spagnols Super Tuscan

Finally got started on my super Tuscan. Day 8 of primary, SG is 1.020. I was going to rack Into carboy for 2nd ferm. per instructions, got on here to read and the general consensus is NOT to do this. What SG should I get to before removing skins/chips and into secondary? Also, any other fun...

    WE vs RJS

haha I use to make several a year. Been out of the game for a year or two. So I’m just easing back into it. Ill make this one, we’ll see what life is looking like by the fall. I plan on bulk aging this for awhile. May start another!

2nd racking / degassing and bung advice

Do you all think the 200-300$ is worth it for a pump? I’ve always been curious, never pulled the trigger. I’m a 1 kit a year guy. Maybe two. I’m sure a big help is just the bottling and racking convenience, I don’t really mind lifting the carboys up though.

    WE vs RJS

Hey all, I’ve only ever made WE eclipse series reds, they switched obviously to a new brand (private reserve?) Not sure if it’s good or bad. Anyway, looking for my annual kit, I’ve never tried an RJS kit. I was looking at the Italian Super Tuscan online. Pros vs cons? Another...

WineXpert Bulk aging with oak cubes

Good point JohnT. I have unfortunately already adding the oak as per the directions. I'll simply give me a quick clean after the first rack and add them back in for the remainder of bulk aging. I'm very new to winemaking (5 kits in) and haven't even really opened any of the others but im...

WineXpert Bulk aging with oak cubes

Great advice everyone! I'll probably follow the directions and rack off in 10 days or so, rinse the cubes and bulk age for 5-7 weeks, rack and get the cubes out and age another 5-7 weeks. Excited, best "first" taste of wine I've made yet! Looks promising!

WineXpert Bulk aging with oak cubes

Do you typically rack first to get it off sediment, then leave for a few months? Or is it ok to leave the sediment in with the cubes for a few?

WineXpert Bulk aging with oak cubes

Hey everyone! Just racked my eclipse merlot from 2nd fermentation, degassed, added oak cubes etc...I'm wondering if it's ok to do some bulk aging at this point to get alittle more oak in the final product? I put all three bags if American oak in after degassing. The instructions say to let...

What is considered a "dry" hydro reading? Below 1,right at 1?

Cellar Craft CC Yokima Valley Syrah

So I've read a little about this kit and found a few for sale online and was wondering if you all agree with what I've read? (being awesome etc...) I love Syrah/Shiraz wines from the store and would love to make my own! This would also be my first kit not from WE (thats all the stores in my...
