    First Cider Experiment Brew Begins.

Could not resist, had to pour myself a cup. It is Saturday night after all. Taste is about the same as last time though much less yeasty. all things considered I'm really happy with it so far. I think next batch I'm gonna use brown sugar, or caramelize the white sugar, as I think the caramel...

    First Cider Experiment Brew Begins.

Last night I noticed one of the 2 jugs had stopped bubbling. The other I had given an extra step feed to see what the difference would be and it is still bubbling away happily. This morning there was still no bubbling and the water in the blowoff tube bottle had moved up into the tube so it...

5 days in and the bubbling has almost stopped. Interesting color changes. Debating giving one or both halves a shot of sugar to see what happens.

Chocolate Peanut Butter Caramel Bucket Hooch. That would look awesome on a label.

HAHA Prison style. At least it's not a mash of sugar packets and candy bars.

    First Cider Experiment Brew Begins.

So I could not wait for my fancy yeast and other stuff to get muled in from North America, I wanted to get something brewing ASAP, even if it turned out to be an unsuccessful learning experience. Luckily things seem to be moving along at a so far so good pace. Even though everything I have used...

    Pineapple pee in Thailand

Continuing to do so as I haunt the various suppliers of stuff. I have a new big cooler plan for the long term, but to start with I'm gonna do some small (5L) experimental batches in some styrofoam coolers using the locally produced juices and baking yeast. An indoor outdoor digi thermometer will...

    Post a photo, any photo

I'm in Thailand, in the very strange city of Pattaya. Don't google pics/video of my current home with kids in the room, lol.

Some pics from around my current home, including a little scenery, Thai style 'dollar meals' (a scoop of rice and a scoop of stuff for about a dollar), relaxing at the beach and a snack vendor at the beach.

    Pineapple pee in Thailand

So I was out at the home store today shopping for curtains and I figured I'd poke around to see what sort of brewing stuff might be repurposed from items there at the store. Lo and behold they had some nice 19L drinking water containers that I think I might go ahead and use as fermenters until I...

How to make Pineapple Wine - Christmas recipe Xmas special (YOU TUBE)

Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Without experimenting nothing new or interesting will ever be discovered or created.

    Pineapple pee in Thailand

China is on the someday list, but it is a pretty big place. Thailand for the most part is pretty great IMO, but I know some folks don't like it, it certainly is different.

    Pineapple pee in Thailand

Thanks JIG! It's funny, since I posted this update yours is the second referral to Lek11 I have gotten. It's been added to the itinerary for my next trip to BKK. I'll probably pick up some K-meta just in case but I'm still hoping to do things without. Between that place, the brew store and...

    Pineapple pee in Thailand

Figured it was time for an update on this project. In the long run I am still wanting to try to do some different versions of Pee, but for my first batch I think it would be best to stick as close to the original recipe as possible, but there are a few things I have no choice in changing and a...

    Plastic 'carboy' or steel pot?

Yeah that was something else I was thinking of. It seems the headspace is good in the primary and bad in the secondary. I could maybe do something to reduce the surface area with a chunk of floating cutting board or something, but a big piece of plastic floating in there defeats whole purpose of...

    Plastic 'carboy' or steel pot?

Nope I can't just order glass carboys off of ebay, none of the folks I see on ebay selling them ship over here for one thing, and even if they did I'd be really worried about shipping something that big, heavy and fragile all the way over here. I'm pretty sure I would end up getting a big box...

    Plastic 'carboy' or steel pot?

So maybe a bigger cooler type primary fermenter and some smaller SS pots for secondaries? The smaller SS pots in the 10L - 20L range were a lot cheaper per liter of capacity than the big 40L guy was. What about the sealing issue? Isn't having a good seal more important in the secondary than...

    Plastic 'carboy' or steel pot?

Here in the lovely tropical Kingdom of Thailand glass carboys do not exist, there simply are none to be had. So I must find some other option for fermenters. From what I can see my options are plastic or stainless steel. Aluminum pots are around but I don't think I'm down with aluminum as...

    Wild Fermentation?

That's why I think washing would be a good route, a washed yeast can hang out in the fridge in it's jar for a good 6 months or more, enough time to figure out if it worth trying again or not.

    Wild Fermentation?

You could try washing and saving the yeast.
