I have an extra Lallemand Clos packet available

Yep, I miscalculated the amount of yeast I needed for this season and have the one Clos packet remaining unused. I'd be happy to mail it to someone if interested. Let me know via the forum.

    Marquette cluster die-off

Anyone have any insight in to why a small number of Marquette clusters wither? The stems appear to pinch off and everything below dies. Only happening on Marquette. Sorry, can't get the photos to rotate but you can see the issue.

    Any frost damage?

California has been hammered this spring, with huge crop losses apparently. Has anyone on the forum also had frost damage (yet)? None here in Maine so far. Three of my six northern varieties are at bud swell - now I start holding my breath. Good luck to everyone!

    Autumn changes in the vineyard

I would be curious to hear from others what is happening in their vineyards as summer wanes and our vines start to make the changes they will need to make to winter over. Some folks have first or second year plants and won't need to worry about harvesting a crop, while others have that pleasure...

    Maine vineyard

I've been working like a dog clearing trees, grading by hand and preparing soil, planting posts and now rigging support wires - all in order to try to grow wine grapes in an environment where you'd think they have no business trying to grow! The weather has treated me very kindly and signs of...

    Buon Vino Mini-Jet

My kind wife presented me with a Mini-Jet filter last weekend and I just happened to have a Viognier white wine kit ready to bottle, so I felt it would be a great guinea pig project for filtering. The machine comes with motorized filter unit and all necessary tubing, but doesn't have filter...

    Pumpkin Pie Mead Maine Style

With Masta's input, I got a batch started yesterday. This is for 2 gallons. 8 pounds fresh pumpkin, baked w/ spices, then peeled 7 pounds local wildflower honey 1 bag orange flavored Craisins 6 oz dried currants 1 tsp pectic enzyme 1 1/2 tsp yeast nutrient 1 tsp yeast energizer...

    Types of Wine Bottles

For anyone curious, as I was, about what the different bottle styles are, the following came up on the first Google try: http://www.texaswinetrails.com/bottles.htm The historical bits are interesting. Bill

    WineXpert Pinot Noir II

I started a batch of Oregon Yam Hill County Pinot Noir on 11/29. I have ignored it until this evening, when I checked SG and found it down at 1.002, figured it was time to get in a carboy. Washed and sanitized the only one available along with tubing and drained out of the primary using the...

    Pumpkin Wine likes the cold

I've had 2 3/4 gallons of pumpkin wine outside that I started about the second week in October. It was only out about 6 days, dropping to 18 degrees at the coldest. I just racked it off a thin layer of sediment today and have a lovely clear yellow-golden nectar. I tried to get a...

    Mezza Luna Red down

This is the first kit I ordered from George late in September. I waited an extra month to bottle this wine while it steeped in 2 oz. of oak chips, but I needed its carboy for other projects this weekend, so I racked it to a primary fermenter... I had soaked bottles...

    Seasonal Color

I started some cranberry currant wine last weekend and racked out of the pail to glass last night. Ended up with 2 3/4 gallons. It looks like V-8, I know, but I have high hopes for this batch. Next morning, after sitting overnight, the sediment is building...

    Racking

Here is a really nuts-and-bolts topic. I've done a few rackings now since starting out about a month ago. The awkwardness of my inexperience is most obvious in my racking technique. I imagine there are many on the forum who can share tips and techniques they've developed on just how...

    Apple Endeavors

It is orchard picking time in Maine. On Saturday my wife, Sam and I picked 90 pounds of tart apples with a few sweeter Baldwins mixed in and started some hard cider and two batches of wine, straight apple and apple-pear-kiwi (things needed using in the fruit bowl.) On Sunday it took...

    WineXpert Mezza Luna Red redux

I just started this kit tonight. Measured water ok up to the 6 gallon line after putting in the concentrate (bentonite went in first - some lumps never did stir away). The temperature was at 80 degrees F, a little warm I says to myself. The SG was 1.080 to 1.082, not quite sure because the...

    Initial Sign-in

Greetings to all forum members and contributors from a beginner down- east. Although my first kit is on the shipper's truck somewhere north of New Jersey and I have absolutely no wine making experiences to report, I want to say how much I have enjoyed reading through all the posts on the...
