    SG and Brix

    Brix & SG Dan I did cross reference the Brix to SG on the chart and it does not coincide. With a Brix reading of 10 I should have a SG 1.030, however my actual SG is under 1 which makes me think the brix reading should be zero as well.

    I have a refractometer and after primary fermentation I have a specific gravity of 0.96 yet the refractometer read 10 degrees. Why is that?

    Re: pear wine clearing If you are not using pectin enzyme before adding yeast, I would try doing it. You may have too much pectin haze.

    WineXpert Making 5 gal from a 6 gal kit

    5 gal from 6 gal kit I should clarify my inquiry. I ferment the primary at 6 gallon, and secondary in the 5 gallon carboy. The extra on gallon is put in a 1 gallon glass jug with bung and trap and allowed to ferment there. When I go through racking steps I always end up with less than 5...

    WineXpert Making 5 gal from a 6 gal kit

    What would be the advantage &/or disadvantage of making only 5 gallons from a kit designed to make 6 gallons. Would it turn out ok or ruin it? Also, would letting it age in the carboy for 6 months before bottling be advantageous ? Thanks Joe
