    The Blueberry Wine Experiment

The First Batch! It has been a busy fall and I haven't made the progress on this experiment that I wanted to but I have made some headway and a batch of Blueberry port, not that it is real port. I took a 1 gallon jug of the blueberry wine and added some oak cubes. After a few months I found...

    The Blueberry Wine Experiment

Thanks for your tips for making the port. I think it is the way the batch may go. I have some leftover berries in the freezer and I think I may use them for making a juice/syrup. Did you have to use a preservative on them? Is there a risk of introducing any bacteria or nasties?

    The Blueberry Wine Experiment

I just had the idea of trying to make a blueberry port. I think it is a venture worth attempting.

WineXpert Lodi Ranch Cabernet Sauvignion, Single Staging and Oak Options...

You know, the funny thing is that I sold off a bunch of extra carboys about a month ago. I will let you know if I need another one. I have to take stock once I get my basement back in order.

WineXpert Luna Rossa - grape type?

Thanks for the translation but I think I will stick with my red labels. As much as my daughter loves the color pink, I think that I will keep it off my wine labels.

WineXpert Luna Rossa - grape type?

Luna Rosa is one of our staples out here. Everyone who has tried it seems to love it too. I make my own labels too. Here is one of them even though the spelling is wrong.

    The Blueberry Wine Experiment

This is my first attempt at blueberry wine. I used the Wild Berry "Blueberry" Additive kit to make 23L. Here are the instructions: http://www.brewerylane.com/instructions/wild-berry-instruction-sheet.pdf I added 12 litres if fruit instead of 10. The starting SG was a lovely 1.090...

WineXpert Lodi Ranch Cabernet Sauvignion, Single Staging and Oak Options...

You are a lucky man to have a wife like that. Kelly was pretty calm over the matter, I must say that I was impressed. My kit was still grape juice and I think that it made more of a mess than actually clean. The basement still has a smell to it. Good thing winter is approaching or I would be...

WineXpert Any thing I can do?

Brian, My starting SG for this kit was 1.088. Perhaps you have got a bad batch for one reason or another. Did you talk to the staff at the store where you bought the kit? I have found the boys at my usual location to be great for advice too and they also have a satisfaction gaurantee which...

WineXpert Lodi Ranch Cabernet Sauvignion, Single Staging and Oak Options...

I will keep that in mind. I am sure that none of my carboys will make it that fine old age. 200 year old wines, eh? Now that I would like to try. I don't think that any of my wines would make it past two years. Although I am trying to make wine for a year down the road... the problem is...

WineXpert Any thing I can do?

I have made the Chilean Malbec before (actually a year ago and I still have 5 bottles left). If I recall, my starting SG was closer to 1.090. I will check it when I get home tonight. I topped it up with wine instead of water. It is very pleasant and easy to drink. I also took a 5.75L out...

WineXpert Lodi Ranch Cabernet Sauvignion, Single Staging and Oak Options...

Robie, I guess the question is, "How long to carboys last and should they be replaced after a certain amount of time?" I have clanked a few together too and I have been lucky. Four years into the hobby and this was my first loss.

Help! I forgot to add a packet in my wine!

I brought a sample of my wine into the wine supply store for a second opinion. After six weeks, it is pretty good (for its age). It has a very crisp and clean taste and is light on the berry flavors. Not bad for a first attempt. After much debate and ado, I have decided to do the following...

WineXpert Lodi Ranch Cabernet Sauvignion, Single Staging and Oak Options...

I guess I have been lucky with my single staging endeavors. I dropped the store where I bought my kit and told them my sob story. They are going to replace the kit for me at no cost. I just have to bring in the ID sticker. It will be in this Thursday. I have now placed my carboys in milk...
