    First Minijet use

Uh oh - guess I need to do some searching around for that one. "Back sweetening?" This wine is a Winepert kit, and the only thing I would add is some sulfite prior to bottling. Is there something else I need to do? In terms of lack of an advantage, I couldn't figure why it would matter. If I...

    First Minijet use

Thanks for the reply. My wine is already very clear. So, following your process, I would filter it to a new carboy and let it sit. Then rack it to my bottling bucket and bottle. How long do you wait before bottling?

    First Minijet use

I just bought a Minijet filter and plan on using it on a batch of Pinot Grigio. My plan was to rack it into another carboy first, and then filter it from there into my bottling bucket and then bottle it. The directions suggest waiting after filtering before you bottle, which I hadn't planned on...

WineXpert WE New Zealand Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc

Thanks, Steve. Having read your tag line before, I should have guessed that the visual signs of fermenting really were just CO2. In truth, this is my first white wine kit, so I'm seeing some things behave differently than my previous red batches. It probably was just CO2 bubbles, but I'll let it...

WineXpert WE New Zealand Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc

I'm nearing the end of second fermentation. I tested it yesterday and the SG was at .994. I expect that today I will have a similar reading and per the instructions, shoudl be able to add the clarifiers and metabisulfate. However, when I was taking the first reading yesterday, I noticed that it...

    WineXpert World Vineyard French Cab

Everything I read said that as a beginner, one should follow the directions to the letter. Only after having a few batches under your belt should you change anything. Well, it took one batch to learn exactly as you've described. I will never bottle just two weeks after clarifying. I had sediment...

    WineXpert World Vineyard French Cab

Sorry, I left that out. I degassed with a drill-mounted whip until the bubbles stopped.

    WineXpert World Vineyard French Cab

I just tasted my first batch of wine. It's the World Vineyard Frnech Cabernet Sauvignon. I bottled it on 25-Jan and opened the first bottle on 25-Feb, one month later. I would have to describe it as rather undrinkable. It still had the same metalic smell it had when I bottled it, although it had...
