44 years old here, I choose that yeast for the alcohol tolerance, works well with concentrates and difficult environment. I added the dark grape concentrates and grape powder mix for lesser cost and availability. Higher alcohol content is also a target. 18% according to lavlin chart.
No hydrometer but Lavlin k1-V1116 yeast has a high alcohol tolerance. I added no chemicals. Potassium Metasulphite in the Welch's and Tricalcium Phosphate in the powder mix.
6 gallons of water
5 cans Welch's white/peach frozen concentrate
2 Cans generic grape concentrate
12 lbs sugar
1 can of peachs in syrup
1/2 lb. Generic powder grape Drink mix
1 and 1/4 Packet of Lavlin k1-V1116 yeast
I am guesstimating the sugar content to be 2.5-2.6 lbs per gallon...
The nutritional information on a 11.5 ounce can of Welch's concentrate state having 33 grams of sugar. I assume this is per serving. The can yields 6 servings which would make total sugar at 198 Grams in the container?
Total newbie here and in the last few days I have read a ton of recipes and instructions ....seems like the best is to go with whatever that particular lable says...just my opinion. Mixture of science and art at best. I am hooked :)
Cool Would like to read about that sometime soon. And thanks for your responses. If I may pick your brain one last time...For a beginner batch like this...Probably go like 14 days fermenting regardless of the bubbles ...Chill, rack then consume or Rack, chill and consume? Or does it matter?
Right you are sir...My only invertment this first time were the ingredients and a tube to rack. Hyrometer for the 2nd Generation of hooch. Anyway to get an estimate about alcohol content without a hydrometer before drinking a few glasses?
I mean my first batch ever at homemade wine. 4 different recipes. The K1-V116 took off in a few hours with White Grape Juice concentrate, 2nd place is a Tea mix of 4 Bagged Liptons, 1 Chamomile and 1 Green tea ( oddly) I did not expect much from this recipe. 3rd place Red grape juice...
I have not even purchased my first hyrometer yet. I am curious about other results from the Lalvin K1-V116 and Lalvin K1-V118. I read that the Lalvin K1-V116 works well in low nutrients and adapt to difficult fermentation conditions and higher alcohol content. So ran with that on my first batch.
Any users of the Lalvin K1-V116 or Lalvin K1-V118? Results?
I just started my first batch with Lalvin K1-V116 and curious what others think of this yeast and results.
Newbie question - First batch ever
I tried a variety of 4 recipes for my first batch of homemade wine. Nothing fancy but I did use Lalvin K1-V116. Nothing else added but tap water, fruit juce concentrate, water and sugar. Only one jug with white grape juice concentrate really took off from day...
