    Tomato Wine

Working link to pic, and looks pretty bloomy, not that I am an expert or even experienced with wine, but I have baked a few and a half loaves of bread, and know bloomy yeast when I see it ;)

    Steam Juicr

I'll be watching this thread. I have friends who just got one, I don't know what kind, but I've been welcomed to borrow it or show up for juicing sessions. I've been following a thread elsewhere about them, and that gal Sally who started the thread seems to have a lot of sense and experience...

    Hello from a WNY Gardener

Oooohhh, good to know, thanks. They're a little bit further away from me (Mapquest says 15 minutes, but that seems very, very unrealistic). It sounds like I'm really lucky to have Dunkirk Homebrew. We don't have many mom and pop shops left, but that and Westwind archery are the kinds of places...

    winemaking task reminders

Thanks - I'm just getting started and trying to start with good record keeping habits (unlike I said I would and didn't with my garden this year) so I'll give this a shot.

Critique/Follow Along First Batch - Blueberry

Best that the fruit is frozen 1st Unfortunately, no room in the freezer for that amount of berries, and I notice a change in flavor with frozen berries, but it wasn't an option anyway 12 pints seam low. fruit is measured in pounds. 5 gallons should have 25-30 #'s of blueberries Everything I...

    Hello from a WNY Gardener

I thought it was great, but since I've never been to another, I don't have much for comparison. It's a small little outbuilding behind a big beige barn on Rt 20, just west of the official "town" of Sheridan, so it's a little closer to Fredonia than Silver Creek, in fact, 1.6 miles east of where...

Critique/Follow Along First Batch - Blueberry

Hey all... I figured I'd post my first recipe and steps as I go along, so that I can get some feedback and so it will be easier to give the background when I have questions. And I'll have questions. So this is long since I want to capture the details, and I know it may help me later. I put my...

    campden tablets vs COMET cleaner

Since it hasn't been mentioned, I'll add that using anything abrasive (like Comet) to clean the plastic buckets isn't a good idea. It can create microscopic (or larger) grooves and pits in the plastic where bacteria can grow. Good luck salvaging your figs!

    Tomato Wine

Very interesting. I hope you update this thread with details on how it goes and how it tastes. I am going to have a ton of tomatoes pretty soon, and while I have plans for canning them, this could be a very interesting use. I'd be curious about it as vinegar, too.

    Hello from a WNY Gardener

Thank you, Arne! That really answers quite a few of my questions. I should probably go over to Tractor Supply and see what kinds of parts they have. I've seen insulators that (I think) can attach to the wire fence, so I know actually doing it shouldn't be difficult, it's planning the details...

    Hello from a WNY Gardener

First off, thanks to all of you for the welcome messages. From lurking around here, I could tell this was a friendly place with a lot of nice, helpful people. Thank you for this info, because I've been doing a ton of Googling on electric fence set-ups, but most are related to keeping dogs or...

    Hello from a WNY Gardener

Hi, all... My name is Shirley, and I have a degree in geology (no job atm) hence the name. I'm an avid vegetable gardener, I have some fruit trees and things, planning on more, and I am new to wine making, although I grew up around a little bit of it. I've been reading up on it for years...
