    Mixture of Grape / Blackberry

Thanks. Have never blended, but sounds like this is the place to start. Will give it a try.

    Mixture of Grape / Blackberry

Bought a house a number of years back that has 3 red-type grapevines in the side yard (not sure what variety). Have never made anything other than jelly with the grapes, but would like to try a blend of this grape with blackberries that I also harvested this year in my yard. Make blackberry just...

How many carboys do you own?

In the "Hooked" section, almost in the Addicted. Have just enough, though, to keep my supply going at an adequate rate.

    Favorite Wine

Favorite to make to date has been Blackberry -- made first batch of Muscadine last fall, too, that could quickly become my favorite to make. Still evolving in the big Reds arena. Have made two type of Cabs and Luna Rosa from kits -- all very good. Have some of each still in inventory, one...

What Types of Wine do you make?

Home grown muscadine and blackberry every fall once fruit is harvested. Make a Quality Red kit from George every other year or so as my inventory gets low (my wife only likes sweet wine, so the dry reds last awhile). Once every 3 or so years will make a white wine, normally a budget-wise...

    Fruit Wine sediment

Was looking at my wine inventory just yesterday, and noticed that some of my year old homemade fruit wines had developed a disgusting sediment. Probably could run wine over a coffee filter to clear it out when serving, but looks bad in the bottle. Not something I would serve guests...

    Pomegranate wine from juice

Have never seen a recipe or considered trying Pomegranate wine. Was going through Kentucky this past weekend, though, and stopped at a Liquor store in Lexington to see if they had any local wines. Found and bought a Pomegranate wine from a winery just outside town. Will be interesting to see...

    Bad year for my muscadines

Have 3 vines (1 red, 2 white) that all produced well for the first time last year. The red vine in particular put off about 40# of fruit and made some great wine!! Pruned all plants back as some videos on the net instructed and this year got nothing on the red vine -- nothing. Maybe, as...

    Muscadine Labels

Here's the muscadine labels I'm using this year.

    Bottling

I put a 5 digit code on the bottom of my labels with the 1) the year and 2) the batch number of that year. Keep a log that has the starting and bottling date of each batch, but guess you could say the "year" on my bottle would be the year I fermented the batch.

    Mixed Muscadine varieties

I've already processed all my reds for the year, but still have about 30# of whites in the freezer and a gallon of white ready to bottle. Will consider making a blend with some of my grapes this year if the yield is as good or better than this past year. As my vines are not yet fully developed...

    My first try!

Looks really good. I just bottled my first attempt at home grown muscadines yesterday and the taste was absolutely amazing. Your's turned out a little redder than mine as I had to remove some of the fruit from the primary because it was too full. Will be posting some pics of mine in another...

    Another Muscadine question

Haven't checked back in for awhile about this batch, but finally bottled it yesterday with great results. Did combine the two separately fermented 3 gallon batches into one 5 gallon carboy and have racked it several times over the past few months. Was a very pale, clear, pink color when...

    CLEANING TUBING

Pretty much the same.....I make up kmeta and keep it in one of my one gallon jugs.Ifmaking a one gallon fruit wine, I just siphon the kmeta solution from the jug to the one gallon jug I'm using for the wine. If sanitizing a3-6 gallon carboy, I first funnel the kmeta to the carboy to...

    Another Muscadine question

Wow...have never had a time with a batch of wine like I did with this one - and have probably made 20-30 batches over the years. Could not get fermentation to start using Lalvin 1122 yeast. In lookingback, think I might have oversulphited the primary. After a few days, I pitched another...
