    Now what!?!?!

Yeah, I think I'm good on correct spacing. It's just the actual new growth just seems to be going everywhere from the spurs. Meaning, I guess I was expecting some sort of habit. But, I have several that are wrapping around each other or grabbing onto the cordon and wire and growing along it...

    Now what!?!?!

Ok folks, I've enjoyed this forum immensely over the past year or so as I started planting my own little backyard vineyard. Last year, I purchased several grapes and muscadines and got them initially trained onto the trellis. I pruned during the winter and was awarded this spring with...

    Muscadines in Louisiana

Bud break on the two "Delicious" variety vines I picked up late season on clearance at Lowe's last year! All my other muscadine vines have a a bit to go. Nice to see them join the bunch grapes, though!

    Pine Straw?

Well, I'm not aiming for total control. Just something better than last summer's weed fest. I cleared out a large block of pampas grass where I've established many of my vines. Seems there were a lot of weeds underneath, waiting for their moment in the sun.

    Pine Straw?

Anyone mulch with pine straw? Grapes or muscadines? I have a lot of pines on my property and had a terrible time with weeds last year. Soil pH is currently around 6.5.

    Wild Muscadine propagation

Hah! Well I can see that angle. Good luck with it and make sure to share results!

    Wild Muscadine propagation

70 acres is a lot! Are you going to have a market for that much fruit/wine? Regarding wild vines, yeah, just make sure you are getting known fruit producers. The stat I've seen is something like 75% of wild vines are non-fruiting males? Really, though, you'd still probably be better off...

    Muscadines in Louisiana

Yeah, that's what I figured. The two "Delicious" that I planted are only a few feet from my main row of vines. I was hoping it would be enough but it's obvious now, looking at this season's growth that they are waay too close. Since I planted them late season from pots, I shouldn't have any...

    Muscadines in Louisiana

While I'm at it, if anyone's reading this-question on planting new rows. What's the minimum distance you would space rows of muscadines. And does it matter if you offset the placement of the new vine from the adjacent row's vines so that it's ten feet over? I think I know the answer but...

    Muscadines in Louisiana

End of the year update! Well, it was an interesting year for my litle backyard vineyard. And when I say backyard...I live in a gated HOA with pretty expensive, professionally-maintained designer landscaping all around. I've pretty much red-necked up my backyard with this stuff, lol. I...

    Rookie Grape Growing/Vineyard Questions...

I am in Louisiana and I also started my vineyard this winter with vines from Ison's. Have you watched their videos on their website? They are pretty thorough. They also have a pdf with planting and pruning info as well as a little book for like $8 for sale on their site.

    JUST my luck!

So, I planted my little backyard vineyard back in January/February. My main desire and focus is on muscadines. However, I planted some flame seedless and Mars just out of curiosity to see how well suited my property is for actual grapes. My muscadines are still just beginning to leaf out but...

    Dumb Question!

These are supposed to be pretty vigorous muscadines and I've got them in a pretty good spot so I have my fingers crossed!

    Dumb Question!

Ok that's what I wanted to be sure of! That makes sense! Thanks guys!

    Dumb Question!

Yeah I get that but what I mean is how are you getting the cordons from that main shoot? I've read (watched) a video where all they did was train that main shoot one way onto the trellis, then wait for a shoot to branch off near the wire to send the opposite direction for the other cordon. But...
