    Anyone Growing Marquette Grapes?

Yea, I absolutely understand removing them this year. I was just curious whether I could push a small crop out of them next year, depending on their condition and vigor. We'll see how much the trunk/vine develops in diameter as the season progresses.

    Anyone Growing Marquette Grapes?

My vines came late, but a half dozen going in the ground tomorrow. Three month old vines, and a couple already have tiny clusters. Wow! I might try to get a crop next year.

    September harvest- securing grapes

Hmm.. Harford Vineyard is interesting, not specific vineyards but they give you the AVAs. I love working with Old Vine Zin but I'm concerned of what their definition of "Old Vine" is considered I'm still a little surprised with the pricing per a lug but I need to get it out of my mind that...

The best hybrid variety for winemaking?

Norton is a pretty bad variety in my opinion, but I think opinions are different as its a love-hate variety

    September harvest- securing grapes

I was going to post this in the wine from grapes section, but there's much more activity here. I see several online vendors who sell premium, vineyard designated grape juice and must. Of course, more and more premium wine kits are showing up with attached regions (Red Mountain, WA...

The best hybrid variety for winemaking?

Sorry, but what country do you live in? That could help us out climate wise.

The best hybrid variety for winemaking?

If your European, it'll take 5+ years to import American varieties to the EU. Not worth the effort of the expense. Regent is attractive though because it gives you, as a winemaker, enough to work with and still make a structured dry red wine. With many hybrids, there's no tannins, minimal Brix...

The best hybrid variety for winemaking?

I think you either had a poorly made Regent or your going to have trouble with red wines in general. Regent does have nice, significant tannins compared to most hybrids, but not like a. Cab or a Syrah. I'm guessing the Regent grapes were unripe and the tannins were not substantial but harsh and...

Green Mist Vineyard - The OFFICIAL Startup Thread

Looks great and glad you planted other reds besides Can Franc- the only reason the variety still exists is because it has Cabernet in its name (my opinion)

    tannat vines?

Finally got an e-mail back, they were out of town this week. They were trying to sell me forty vines, grafted onto 101-14 rootstock at $4 a piece. The 101-14 graft can help with cold climates versus own-rooted, so maybe a better chance in MI. I'm going to see if she'll let me buy less- are you...

    tannat vines?

I'm not sure on the Malbec... I find Malbecs to have fairly mild tannins. Not sure if it matches up with Tannat well, but perhaps you had a Tannat blend. Interesting read, sounds like more and more people are excited about Tannat.. Grey Creek hasn't responded to my e-mail though...

I've gotten no response from them. Hmm.

    tannat vines?

Cool! That's a lot of vines but I guess manageable. If you still want to split a bundle, let me know haha. I think if you could get them on a southern slope, they could be fine in Michigan. I read about a vineyard in Indiana and also upstate NY with some success growing them.
