I am assuming you are referring to the wine seeping up the corks, if so then my two ideas are the bottles are too full before corking (maybe in that picture the bottle is just on its side??) and also, maybe the corks are undersized (I guess it's also possible that batch of bottles are oversized?) just thought of a third possibility too, assuming you rule out the other two ideas, maybe you turned the bottles on their side too soon after corking, the books say you should wait a couple days before turning them to allow the cork to re-swell inside the neck of the wine bottle. Hope that helps!

Good observations!!

The bottles have a good amount of air head space (two inches) when the bottle is upright. This photo is taken with the bottle on it's side. I also wait about five days before I put store the corked wine bottles on their sides.

It must be the corks are too small for this batch of bottles. The size of the corks that I used were #8.

At this time my choices are to re-cork them with larger corks or drink the bottles that have this problem first.

In the future I'll use a #9 cork. Though I might need a better corker to do that.
