RJ Spagnols RJ Amarone

A friend of mine is new to wine making and the store he went to recommended this as his first kit. RJ Amarone. He's about ready to rack and will need to top up and is asking for advice on what to use. He looked at the price of Amarone and was a little shocked at the cost. I've never made this kit, so I'm not sure what a good makeup wine is.
Would Valpolicella be a good choice??? Many of you have made this - what did you use??

It might, I haven't made this, blend some in a glass and see how it taste

Valpolicella would be the next best wine to use after Amarone. A Ripassa would be great.
