WineXpert The Labors of my Fruit

I've got to admit that I've been a bit tardy in getting from carboy to bottle, but as I was rummaging last weekend I realized I had a pretty good picture if I organized a bit. Thus: Left to Right On the table: Back Row: 5 Gal Apple Cyser, 6 Eclipse Sauv Blanc, 6 LE2013 Viognier...

    WineXpert Crossing the Rubicon

Not sure if this is good or bad, but I had a glass of my wine for the first time tonight, so at least I will report. I was racking a 3 different kits, two reds and a white. The reds were going from stabilization/clarification into bulk, and the white from the fermenter into glass. My VR...

    Carboy Tags

As my obsession grows (and my memory fades), I realized I needed to have a way to identify what the heck I've got going in my various carboys. I started out with a different low budget concept, but then I remembered that I had found this recently, and decided to use it. [/IMG] This...

WineXpert Na Meta 'Oops!' How bad did I screw up?

After a very successful late nite last evening bottling my first batch and racking my second to bulk, along with a quick taste, I figured that today I'd make good use of the fermenter for my third batch. My first ever kit with skins, Lodi Ranch 11 Cab. After getting my skin pack transferred...

Can I use skins 2X in succession?

I was wondering if you could use skins from a kit that had them and immediately follow the first ferment on skins with a kit that didn't have them? I've seen that you don't want to keep them in primary too long, so there must be additional tannins and colors left, or are those more astringent...

    Bottling from Bottling Bucket??

At my LHBS, one of the workers said I shouldn't bottle from a bottling bucket because "wine isn't supposed to be exposed to air". Neither is beer, and I've bottled from a bottling bucket (valve on the bottom of the bucket obviating the need to bottle from a siphon) for 20 years and didn't worry...

WineXpert 2013 LE South African Voignier

Anyone here made this kit? The LHBS has a couple left, and I was thinking that this might be a nice complex white to lay down for drinking a couple of years out. Thoughts? Best, Fran

    Bonjour!

Howdy folks, Just rolling in to this august community and fascinating hobby. Couple of months ago made the 'mistake' of asking for a bit of advice at the local brew store on some acid blend for a first time gallon of mead. "You're going to need to talk to the wine guy, he knows about all that...
