    Problem growing grapes

50 ft? Is this because of the roots? Or the foilage of the tree? The reason I ask is because there are trees behind these grapevines (as evident in the picture), but the back side of these grapevines is north, so the sun is angled from the side I am taking the picture from (which has no trees)

    Problem growing grapes

I think I will buy bareroot vines next spring. I assume it is too late this year? If I would try to salvage what I already have, would you reccomend digging them up and trying to break up the root ball? (They have been in the ground over a year). I could prune it back, but if the problem is...

    Problem growing grapes

Hi, I moved into my house a few years ago and inherited an extremely overgrown grapevine trellis system, 2 rows 60 ft long. I cut everything down at the ground 2 winters ago. Last spring (over a year ago) I bought a few grape vine plants from the store (2 from Lowes, one from Walmart) and...

What to do with this overgrown vine

Most sites I've read say to plant individual vines 8 feet apart. However, every pruning advice I've read says the canes should not be more than 8 feet horizontal. If a vine has canes 8 feet in each direction, then this vine would be 16 ft. long, right? Why would I plant them 8 feet apart? My...

What to do with this overgrown vine

Thanks, that's what I was originally thinking of doing. I heard from a few people that I should not let that vine grow, though, because the root system would be too large, and not enough above ground, and the fruit would suffer. ALL of the vine you see in the picture (including everything up in...

What to do with this overgrown vine

Hi everyone, I bought this property last fall, and found a very old, overgrown grapevine. There are two rows of trellesis, about 50 ft. each. The back trellis does not have anything growing on it, but the front trellis has one vine, planted in the center, that is out of control. The entire area...
