    Peter: Sap is about 2 % sugar. A neighbor boil sap down to about 18 % sugar then use it to make wine. He would not let me have any. My dad always said it takes 50 gallon of sap and 50 lb of woodto make a gallon of syrup. I think it took a lot more wood than that.

    It was ask if taping a treedamages it. The sap wood and bark will grow over the hole in 3 or 4 years. just like when you cut off a limb. When a tree is cut down and made into lumber it is full of holes about 4 ft. from the trunk.
