Is my floor strong enough for my wine?

I'll have to double check the contact, but if I recall correctly it's relatively small feet (it's just simple wood racking. I'm not too concerned about visuals (my long term goal is to create a nice wine closet, I'll worry about visuals then - this is the cheap "for now" solution), so I'll...

Is my floor strong enough for my wine?

I have a stub end of a hallway in my basement, I plan to install cheap wine shelving from floor to ceiling there. (roughly 3' wide, 8' high). I'm hoping to use as efficient shelving as possible to try to get an order of magnitude of 300ish bottles (haven't done all the math yet, so the number...

Mitigating wine shelves above wine fridge

Side response on this. I decided to call some pros (we have a good cellar store here that specializes in custom wine cellars) and talked to a few of them. The consensus from them is that any solidly built *built-in*under-the-counter wine fridge will have enough heat dispersion out the bottom...

Mitigating wine shelves above wine fridge

Not long term stock up there, but there could be medium term stock, I figure probably over 50% would be less than a year, but the rest perhaps a couple. The 'special' long term bottles will go in the cooler. If I can indeed get a fridge that doesnt' use a compressor then I'd be in business...

Mitigating wine shelves above wine fridge

For my purposes I think there will be plenty of shelf space for me, I'm not concerned about that. What I'm trying to figure out is how I can mitigate the warmth. I'm not saying "there will be warmth up there, is the warmth ok"?. I'm saying "will there be warmth up there that I can't...

Mitigating wine shelves above wine fridge

I'm finishing my basement, and the only space I have for wine will be a 3 foot wide nook where I can put shelving etc. to meet my needs. Bonus is that it'll be 9 feet high. :) I'm currently considering putting a small wine fridge at the bottom of the nook, with a counter over top to place...

Basement Reno - help with wine closet ideas

The main issue with getting an outside door is dimensions (?). If I want to make this closet go right up to the ceiling, I probably want to have the door open up that high, too. Which probably means a custom door(?). If I really want to get fancy I probably want a glass windowed door. :)...

Basement Reno - help with wine closet ideas

Anyone have any suggestions on: 1. How best to approach cooling the closet? (I have choice between venting to the hallway, venting to the furnace room, or using the furnace room to run ducting to vent elsewhere.) 2. Assuming the rest of the closet is well insulated, how best to approach the...

Basement Reno - help with wine closet ideas

Hi John, I should clarify - the space isn't next to the furnace, but it is next to the furnace room. The furnace room will be around 16 feet long, the furnace itself will be at the opposite end of the room. The wine closet is outside the furnace room on the opposite end, but butted up to it...

Basement Reno - help with wine closet ideas

Side note - one wall of the closet will be adjacent to the furnace room, which has two implications: 1. I'll definitely want to ensure it is well insulated to protect it from any heat variation from that room 2. If I want to do any sort of active climate control, I've got that wall as an easy...

Basement Reno - help with wine closet ideas

I've seen some ideas here for doing a wine closet but I'm looking for more info than throwing up good wine shelves (which is what i've done in the past). Developing my basement, the only wine space I'll have is a custom built closet, about 36" wide (inside edges) I can go out to about 29" in...
