I feel the "move" went very cleanly. I stopped transfer before it reached sediment level, having been very careful not to disturb anything when dropping in the siphon. As for colour, it's a surprisingly deep red and looks lovely. Time will tell! My poor primary is stained badly though...not sure...
OK...racked into a clean carboy. Since it was already at 990 I added the metabisulphate and sorbate right away and then the Kieselsol too. I'll wait the week till things settle again and then add the Chitosan. The racking space now smells very heady and the test taste, as I said, was very dry...
Thank you both for your quick responses...going to go ahead and rack it and move on with it. I'll let you know how this goes...thanks again Johnd and CabSauv...
I am so thankful for this community...without it I might have bottled far sooner than I ought to have (even though it's been 2 months - a long time for a kit wine), and even though I've always followed the kit instructions, it's a relief to know that sometimes 'feeling' your way through a kit...
Costco kit continues to 'bubble'...
Jon
I'll need to rack again anyway, so if anything it should help disperse any gas, wouldn't you say? Then, after a week or 2, I should be able to safely bottle, I'm hoping. (^_^)
This is a Costco Merlot. I should say that in the primary it overflowed the bucket (I suppose it's possible I put too much water in). The process went well after that. Once the sg reached .995 I Racked to a secondary, waited about a week and then "killed" and clarified and moved it to what is...
Yeast working?
Thanks everyone...I've covered it up in its blankey (nice and warm) and in about 2 days or so I'll rack it to the secondary, give it some decent time to settle out and recheck sg, then go on from there.
Yeast working?
Tom: You're on the mark! It was about 1.090...
Should I use a heat belt? I'm set up in the basement which is cooler of course, here in Cape Breton. Could the belt hurt?
I started a chardonnay on September 13th. It's an Argentia Ridge kit from Costco. I just checked the sg again and it's at 1.010. I think I'm reading it correctly.
Can I add/use another yeast packet to get this puppy moving?
Am I being too impatient?
Is the sg OK?
This hasn't happened...
