I soak all my buckets in "pink" or also known as diversol. This stuff is a pink powder you add water to. Make the solution strong and you should get rid of the smell no problem.
This kit is very good. I have made a dozen or so of them with them finishing between .994-.996. I tried some a few days ago and found it to be quite smooth for just being filtered. The Shiraz spice is not as pronounced as I would have thought but time will tell I guess.
I have made hundreds of these kits and we never put it in the wine. I was told it will prevent "diamonds" from forming for up to 18 months. I prefer to let the diamonds fall earlier than later so the wine smooths out quickly.
