One month progress - doing ok so far?

Thanks for your thoughts. I'll keep an eye on their overall growth throughout the season before I plan my purchase for next spring (as I'm planting more then). And I am going into this with both eyes open, knowing it's all a grand experiment. The majority of my vines are white, which I hope will...

How soon do you start picking off grape clusters in young plants?

Thank you for your thorough response! I had thought it was wiser to get them off sooner, but I didn’t know if it really mattered. I’ll nick them off whenever I first see them. It’s great to see vines at varying stages for the first three years. Pictures during those stages are really helpful...

That’s a good looking vine you’ve got there! What kind is it?

How soon do you start picking off grape clusters in young plants?

Some of my first year vines already have little clusters. Should I wait until it’s convenient and they’ve grown past the vine shelter, or would it be better to get them off sooner?

    Disease on 'America'

If no one hear answers, you might check with your local extension office. :)

    Post your vineyard pictures!

June is exciting. I want to see your vineyards! Here's mine. Lots of work waiting for me. :)

Keeping in mind that I didn't plant these dormant vines until May, what would you expect the vine to look like? What has been your experience (though I imagine it's probably quite different if you're planting in the fall)?

One month progress - doing ok so far?

Thanks! I did just want to know if they’re growing at a healthy rate, so I appreciate your comment. I’ll look into a spray regimen, but I know from talking to the extension office (non-grape specific, but for berries) that we don’t have a lot of disease pressure here. But I certainly don’t...

Also, here are two pictures of my vineyard today. We just got fence posts pounded in on Friday, so it's looking a bit more legit!

I'm the type of baker that watches my sourdough bake to make sure I'm not surprised by how much it rises, and so I can cheer it on. This is my first year with the vineyard, so I'm doing the same thing, but don't know how quickly bare root vines break bud, leaf, have a noticeable stalk, pass the...

    Missoula Vinyard

Dave, I'm happy to hear your Pinot Noir survived this crazy winter! Did all your vines survive?

Anyone have experience (good or bad) with chickens in the vineyard?

All of your experiences are really helpful! Thank you for sharing. This gives me a lot to think about.

Anyone have experience (good or bad) with chickens in the vineyard?

This is good to hear! Thank you for replying! Have you ever had them around newly planted vines?

Anyone have experience (good or bad) with chickens in the vineyard?

I'm thinking of enclosing a section of my vineyard to be the chicken coop and letting them wander around to eat insects. I've read about some wineries letting chickens out into the vineyard, but I'm wondering if they'll eat my grapevines when they're still really young?

    New cold climate optimist

I just bought my first grapevines ever! I’m excited and terrified and cautiously optimistic. I had to say it somewhere. Once I plant I’ll probably start a growing thread, but part of my spring order is paid for! Vignoles, Vidal Blanc, Cab Franc, and Riesling so far. :) Eeeeeeeh! So excited!!
