First question: Where is the least expensive place to get oak fermenting vats in the USA / company to source them from?

Second question: How long will oak vats last for? I've heard everything from 25 to 100 years. If you use a vat seasonally (i.e. every fall and winter, but not spring and summer) will it last less long?

Most oak vats are custom made and I have never seen them on the open market.

You could always consult one of the many companies that specialize in wooden water tanks (most building in NYC have wooden water tanks).

The issue is that oak vats are difficult to clean and prep during the long period of time between uses. My advice is to go with plastic (food grade) or, even better, stainless steel. You can always add oak as an additive during fermentation.
