I know this is a difficult ask but a friend of mine bought a property in Southern Michigan that had vines on them (he's not a winemaker). Can anyone venture a guess at what these two varietals might be?

Luck you!

Sorry I can’t really help with the grape ID. If you don’t get any answers here check with his local university extension horticulturalist. They probably have a grape program in MI.

My first look would be what does a local garden center sell in spring? With that one might compare the catalogue against your picture. I note you are in Michigan which could lead to Vinifera along the lake shore or Minnesota hybrids like Briana and Marquette. If you are close to Lake Erie

My second look would be the grapes. Are they foxy flavor? This leads to Lambrusco genetics. What size? If 3/8 to 1/4” that is typical Marquette and Brian’s. If 5/8 to 3/4 that would be typical concord or niagara. Do they have seeds? Table grapes try for no seeds and really high sweetness. What kind of brix or gravity? What pH? What TA?
By the way do you like the flavor? It really doesn’t matter much if you don’t like the flavor.

A third look is what leaf shape? The vinifera seems to bring more indentation on the leaf.
