    I started My first batch of wine Saturday. I'm making a Chilean Malbec , by wine expert. Everything seems to be fermenting properly. Since it's my first kit I really want to peek inside and see what's going on inside the primary. Can I take the lid off and peek or will it mess something up?

    Filter wine with coffee filter?

    I was talking to a guy the other day at my local wine supply store and he told me that he filters his wine with coffee filters. Does this sound crazy? I've always heard the saying, "A poor man, has poor ways". Would this work if you did not have the extra money to buy a filter?

    Storage question

    I haves very simple question. Is it necessary to store my homemade wine on it's side? I plan on using synthetic corks, I've read they don't let air in the bottle. Is this true? I was hoping to put the filled bottles back in the box they came in and store them upright in a closet. Will this work?
