    No degassing needed...

More info... Thanks for all the responses so far. When I said secondary fermentation I should have simply said "secondary" as it is a continuation of the first fermentation on these kits. The kit instructions do specifically state secondary fermentation but that is not that case as a few of...

    No degassing needed...

I just recently put down 7 more wine kits, each one was a kit I had done in the past and typically during the degassing stage it took quite a while to degas each kit. This time it was different, there was virtually no gas present in any of the kits. I did 2 things differently, first I used...

Looks interesting, anyone have experience with the soft brush ends? I'm worried it won't be course enough. Thanks for the advice! I'm definitely looking to expand my brush selection! haha

    Wine Bottle Brush

I have checked my local Walmart but can't seem to find anything that would work, unfortunately no BBB in my area either. I was convinced I was going to have to buy online and I've been trying to pick the right one to buy since I can't see them before hand. I have a carboy brush (stiff white...

    Wine Bottle Brush

Hey Guys, Simple question... what is your favorite bottle cleaning brush and where did you get it? Simple enough but I've actually been having trouble finding a good one in my area to clean my bottles (from family members who don't rinse!). Thanks, Matt

WineXpert Ahh I did it now 2 kits

Do you think this is because you bumped the SG before primary? I believe you took it to 1.070 right? I am going to put down a Blackberry kit and am considering bumping up as well, just not sure how much. Maybe I'll aim for 1.060.

    First Solo Bottling Day!

Awesome! The MiniJet was amazing!! Had myself couped up in a small room surrounded by carboys, minijet, corker, corks, sanatizer, vinator, and 90 bottles. Went in at 7:30 and emerged shortly after 8pm with 88 bottles of goodness! Everything worked flawlessly, the only addition I need is a good...

    First Solo Bottling Day!

Right on, thanks for the mix ratio for the k-meta too. I'll do this for sure! Heading home shortly to commence, I'll try not to drink too much wine during the process!!

    First Solo Bottling Day!

Hey Guys! Today I will bottle for my first time solo, I know it won't be too different than normal but I did have a few things I wanted to clarify before I start. Corks I have read a million and one posts about corks. If they are sealed from purchase, use them dry, if not then make a...

    To Raisin or not

Sounds like a worth while experiment. I bought a Borolo and Cab kit from Costco the other day for $40. I think I'll try adding raisins to these kits as I have heard they don't have a lot of body.

    Wine Kit Degassing

A friend of mine does it, he's gotten pretty good at it too. Lines up all the bottles and moves from bottle to bottle very quickly then once he's done he'll go back and top them up to exact levels before corking. Then he rinses the bottles once they are corked.

    K-meta & bulk aging

Thanks for answering all my questions today in various threads! haha I guess I'll have to buy some bulk k meta then.

    Wine Kit Degassing

Now I'm a little worried, I definitely had lots of foaming when I thought I was degassing. As you said I was probably oxygenating the wine rather than degassing it, how bad will this affect my wine? I did this right after fermentation was complete. I was looking at buying the all in one vacuum...

    To Raisin or not

When is the right time to add the raisins? In the fermenter right at the start or in the secondary after fermentation is completed? Also, is there any guidelines as to how many lbs of raisins per gallon? etc? Can I literally just take the Sunmaid raisins from costco and dump them in? Thanks.

    Wine Kit Degassing

Once fermentation is completed is it safe to degass the wine anytime throughout the process? For example the kits I use have me adding packets and degassing in certain orders, once I have done this can I degas at will? The reason for this is sometimes when I degass I get a lot of head, this way...
