RJ Spagnols CCWS Rosso Bravissimo & EP Shiraz

I've got the EP Shiraz at about 10 months now, 6 months bulk aged and the rest in the bottle. It's already very good and probably of the 15 or so kits I've made since I started a year ago the best of the lot so far.

RJ Spagnols RJ Spagnols pecking order

On a side note, I was just able to order a Hightail EP Syrah through a store in Edmonton. So if anyone else was curious about these the suppliers do still have some available. $159 was the price and if its half as good as my EP Australian Shiraz is turning out then that's a bargain IMO.

Other Paklab 23L Onyx V Argentinian Malbec kit.

Made it with no great expectations. I added a banana and a muslin pack of skins I had already fermented in a Meglioli kit. It was thin, fruity, tasted nothing like a Malbec but was an excellent early drinker with zero KT after only 3 months. No comparison to any high end kit, but the price...

    Cellar Craft Amarone

I just sampled my Mosti Mondiale Meglioli Amarone that's been aging in the carboy for 6 months. I'm also a huge Amarone fan and I was hoping for this wine to be amazing after 2-3 years, but expecting it to taste like crap so early. It was definitely early but it surprised me because even though...

Packlab Paklab Kit, which one to buy

I've been making wine kits for about 9 months now so I'm just a little bit ahead of you but I followed the same train of thought ... make cheap, early drinking kits to age my premium kits without raiding them. I bought several from Costco but only made the Onyx Malbec, the others I sold on...

    WineXpert Spanish Matador Trio Red

I have both in bulk aging right now. I did one with a skin pack and there's definately a lot of fruit taste to it with amazing color and aroma. It's so early to comment on the oak flavour as the KT is still overpowering. I'll deal with the oaking after about 8 months in the Carboy when I run...

Cellar Craft Cellar Craft Limited Release kits for 2012

Will do! I had all my primaries busy but I'll start one kit next week and get it rolling. Im excited about this one as its my first CC attempt and I've been reading so many good reviews about the CC Red Mountain Cab.

Oops, I think I may have just grabbed it. I just picked up two of his extras from the west end Edmonton store at 5pm tonight.

How did you get started in wine making?

My father-in-law, who is Portuguese by birth, randomly decided to make a bucket of grape juice he saw in the local Italian center. I guess he felt pretty cocky, stirring the must with the un-santized broom handle he found in the shed, because he challenged me to make a better wine than his and...

    WineXpert Washington Meritage

I grabbed two more after sampling my first. I'm hoping for great things from this one.

    WineXpert Spanish Matador Trio Red

I just finished starting this in primary as well and I was also very impressed. Wow, what a lot of oak! I'm doing an experiment with this years 3 Winexpert LE reds. I started two of each, the first exactly by the instructions and the second with an MM Meglioli grape skin pack added. I'm really...

RJ Spagnols Winery Series Super Tuscan.. ahhh.. yum...

I have one of these badboys waiting at home for me. The countdown is on, 3 more days and I'll be able to start it in primary. I have no experience with this kit but I chose it after extensive research on reviews from this forum and others. From what I have read I don't think we can go wrong with it!

New barrel choice... French vs American vs Canadian

Great feedback, thanks guys. I'm going to have fun with this and might even grab a cheaper Canadian oak 19L barrel. Once that's neutral I could finish the aging process by bottling the excess and running the bulk of my batch through the barrel. That would leave me a few bottles from the...

New barrel choice... French vs American vs Canadian

Thanks for the advice. Maybe what I'll do is just run my early drinkers trough first to break it in and when it goes neutral use it for aging higher end grape skin kits like my Megliolis, Winery Series etc etc. How many months would you recommend running a high end kit like an MM meglioli...

New barrel choice... French vs American vs Canadian

I'm thinking of ordering a new barrel for my kit wines but not sure which to get of the 3. I already have a 23L Hungarian bbl and I do want another but not sure which to get. I like the idea of layering French/Hungarian but its the most expensive of the 4 oaks. Any thoughts on it? Or should...

    WineXpert 1st kit. Trinity Red

I made the chilean malbec and trinity red. Bot kits are in the same price class but the trinity was very good very early. The malbec tastes very thin compared. I was surprised by how good this kit was as I only made it to drink early while my higher end kits bulk age.

Cellar Craft Degas after the fact?

Any time I rack my wine I use my vacuum pump (allinone) but I do still use my drill attachment to take out the meat of the C02

    Other Fine vine wines

My local Mosti Mondiale dealer sells the skins that come with the Meglioli kits seperately. I'm also in Canada though so I'm not sure how widely available these are but you can find local MM retailers and go from there.
