I would like some info on making Pear wine. I have two really old pear trees that were a part of the original Orchard here on our farm. Sadly to say these are all that is left of the orchard, until I start getting production from 135 grape vines I just started. Anyway I have never made anything but wine from concentrates. How would I go about making Pear wine and what should I be careful of? Thanks, Lynn

Winemaster, two stupid questions. What are Sultanas (i think I spelled that right)? How do I process the pears to get the ready to place in the primary fermenter? Also, I assume the recipe was for a 1 gallon batch? Thanks, Lynn Hobbs

Sultanas are similar to raisins, but don't add the darker colour to the wine, hence sultanas in white wines raisins in red,as for preparation of the pears you can either :

1...top n tail and slice thinly

2.. lightly liquidise

3..put them through a fruit press

4..if there ripe enough simply squeeze by hand.

Your assumption was correct, yes it is for one gallon, will add that to the post.
