I found an old empty 1 gallon glass bottle in my garage. The rusty cap was printed in ink 85¢. I know I'll throw the cap.

I had heard somewhere that vinegar bottles shouldn't be used. It didn't smell of vinegar and would like to clean it up and use it as a carboy. Could anyone see any issues from using it?

I would use it. I would clean it out real good with a strong cleanser several times and then let it soak in oxy clean for a day or two. If it was plastic, I would dump it but being glass you can clean it up.

I have used gal pickle jars with no problem; just clean well as already suggested.
