Need some advice on cleaning a barrel.. A friend gave me a barrel that is from 2000 so it is neutral. He made a very nice wine in it last year and bottled about 2 months ago, but was not able to clean it. Smells bad and has some residual wine. I was going to pressure wash, let dry then burn a sulfur stick, then... does that sound right?

I say to proceed as you mentioned and maybe try some bleach. Forget using it for wine. Pressure wash the outside of it to. Now decide what or how you want to use it for decoration or table base.
