I am in Ohio and this bush grows wild around here. There are several in the brush line by my house that are currently ripe. Anyone know what they are called? Are they safe to make wine with?

Thank You,

I have been told it is "Bush honeysuckle, Lonicera maackii. Invasive in the us".

Which means it is poisonous and thus not a good candidate for a wine batch.

It has taken over in this area. I have seen areas where there has been extensive work to dig it out and kill any remaining shoots and in a few years it is as rampant as before all the work. If you are just beginning to see it you may still have time to dig it out. The problem is that the birds love the berries and new plants sprout everywhere the birds leave droppings.

Yes it is the invasive honey suckle birds plant it every where takes over.
