Hello,

Does anyone know how to calculate the sweetness code of wine we make? I found a chart:

Sweetness Code, Description, Grams of sugar per litre of wine
0, Very dry, 0-5
1-2, Off-dry, 5-25
3-4, Medium, 25-45
5-6, Sweet, 45-65
7-10, Very sweet, 65-105+

But I'm not sure how to calculate/convert the amount of sugar that's left in my wines (or added to my wines) when sweetened. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Andrew

You need a hydrometer to tell you how much sugar is in your wine. Knowing the amount of sugar in a wine, then where you want it to be, your hydrometer can tell you how much you need to add.

Add sugar to your taste. Use the hydrometer to measure the amount of sugar present - and use the WineCalc help to aid in your calculated additions - but bottom line is sweeten to your likings.

Another thought

Purchase a bottle of your favorite wine of the same varietal. Use your hydrometer to test the S.G. of the wine. Adjust your wine accordingly.

or just sample yours at different sweetness intervals until you like it and maybe there will be some left over to bottle.
