After reading the topic on Wine Business, it reminded me of a thought I had earlier today. Does anyone know what it takes to get a permit and license to operate a legal distilllery? I'm not aware of any makers of brandy in Texas. After reading the literature, it seems fairly easy to distill wine to make brandy.

Yes and must go through your State laws also.
Be prepared to have lots of $$$$$$

Depending on where you live, you may need federal, state, county, and city licensing. Honestly, it's a mess. The winery where I work is trying to get a pot still, and you wouldn't believe the mountain of paperwork there is. I thought running a winery was rough...having a still is easily ten times worse!
