I pruned my vines in early March, barely out of winter with still sub freezing nights. Xylem on all the plants was green. The Regent vines exuded a great deal of sap that ran down the trunks, which now look sticky and a bit sad. On some plants the sap seems to have developed something that looks vaguely fungal.

Should I be worried? Definitely plan to prune earlier next year.

In general it is nothing to worry about. Sometimes the gunk get funky colors to it like pink or yellow. I forget what the experts say causes that, but it generally causes no issues.
