    Taylor Fladgate 40 Port

I was at a dinner with an open bar, and I asked if they had any dessert wines or port. The waitress comes back with the bottle, and a sample. As soon as I saw it, I knew what it was. It tasted awesome. Not wanting to break the host's bank, I asked how much, and she said $10-$15, but she would...

    Champagne Bottles - Regular Cork

I had a bunch of Champagne bottles, so i thought I would put them to good use. I bottled a batch of regular red wine, and put in a regular cork (not a champagne bottle mushroom cork). Little did I know, but Champagne bottles have a taper. The inside of the neck of a bottle is narrower at the...

    Seal Wax - Heat Gun?

I'm thinking about getting bottle sealing wax to: 1) Countersink the cork 2) Place beads on top of the cork 3) Use a heat gun to melt the wax. Anyone tried this before? Any ideas on how to place the wax on the top of the cork without getting it onto the outside of the neck?

Catalyst - Beer Fermentation Made Easy

Interesting variation of FastFerment. The Catalyst - Beer Fermentation Made Easy https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/965729099/the-catalyst-beer-fermentation-made-easy/description I like that it uses wide mouth canning jars, rather than a proprietary bulb to collect the sediment.

    Cost vs Benefit: Beer

Let me start out by saying that I get it that some people brew beer and make wine for the fun of it. I make wine because I like the wine, and I save a lot of money vs buying commercial wine. I actually made a few batches of beer (Mr. Beer) prior to making wine. I didn't like it because I...

    Go Ferm

I bought some Go Ferm, and tried it on a few batches. then I went back to the normal way (sprinkling). Seems like Go Ferm gives a 12-24 hour headstart over sprinkling. Not a big deal for the normal kits. However, for the Dessert wine kits where 2 packs of EC-1118 are used, it seems to make a...
