    tart cherry wine too tart

Just tried my tart cherry wine that's been aging about 6 months now in a carboy. I was made from some tart cherry juice that I found in a health food store. Smell is great, it's dry and needs to be backsweetened, and the cherry taste is about right but the tartness that hits after you swallow...

    Dry Creek Overlook

Cut the Cascade vines last night and ended up with another half of a 2.5 gallon bucket full of hops. Pretty good year for them, considering the weather. Probably about 8-9 oz dried total for this year from the two clumps. The other varieties didn't do anything.

    Transplanting wild grape vine

You'd probably be more successful if you wait until it's dormant. Tie a ribbon on it so you don't lose it and dig it up and move it early next spring.

    Dry Creek Overlook

Well my 3 small clusters of grapes have been harvested. Unfortunately not by me. Checked last week and they were deep purplish red and starting to sweeten. Today I found grape stalks.

    Dry Creek Overlook

Grapes aren't ready, but I did pick about 2 lbs of Cascade hops this morning. The past few years I cut all of the bines down to pick them, but today I just picked what was ready - mainly up at the top. The lower 1/2 to 2/3 are still covered in immature cones and the bines are still putting out...

You might check health food stores locally or I've ordered the tart cherry concentrate from here: http://www.brownwoodacres.com/fruit_juice_concentrates.php cherry wine's still in the making so can't say how it tastes yet. Tony

    grape vine upkeep

For you grape growing gurus out there - during the growing season how much do you trim back the vines? My assumption is, as with pretty much all plants, you'd have to do some pruning back to keep the vines from becoming a tangled mess (as mine are starting to look like) and to get light into...
