What are your Winemaking plans for 2006?

Speaking of eggplant, there are also other prolific producers in all our gardens. I love fresh cucumbers so I usually overplant them. when everything goes well, I get tons of them and end up giving them away at work. Is it possible to make wine from them? What about tomatoes? 1 gal...

    Buon Vino Mini-Jet

Ryan, Go for it, at least the gravity filter. I filtered 2 galllons of Concord saturday, and it looks fantastic. It won't be tasted for many more months. Good luck. Archer

    How To: Force Gravity Filtering

Martina, Great post. I have one of these gravity filters, also. I lift my carboy up to the kitchen counter and just siphon it to the filter, which sits on the receiving carboy. One concern I have is that the wine just drips into the receiving carboy. I'm concerned this will oxygenate my...

    Patience

I kept it under the house so I wouldn't have easy access to it. I also drank lots of commercial wine. I just bottled 6 moregallons of Chianti last week and I wonder if that wine will make it to the one year mark. I hope my Montepulciano comes out as good. I need to bottle that soon,so as to free...

Didn't I see Stinkie wearing an aluminum foil, skull-mounted memory probe or something like that?

    Storage

PWP, I'm impressed. I didn't mean to put your rack down, it just looked a little top heavy. The good part is its metal and apparently very strong. Its also moveable (That would be a bit of work to relocate all those bottles), but it could be done. You probably won't find any greater capacity...

Boy, that Sam's club rack really holds a lot of bottles. Thats a lot of weight, you mightwant to tie them into the wall, somehow. Archer

Masta, Allow me to scold you. There were way too many empty carboys at your place. I hope they become active again soon. Good luck. Archer

WineXpert Starting a Lodi Old Vines Zinfandel Kit..

Masta, I just read your post about not racking before sulfiting/sorbating/fining, I guess the wine would benefit from a more complete clearing. Is this the case? In the past I have always racked before adding these treatments and my wines have cleared well. Will my finished product be...

    WineXpert Italian Montepulciano

Peter, It's deffinately not "over the top". I have not strayed from the kit instructions on my previous wines, but probably will try more oak during the bulk ageing phase. I've been a little timid about overoaking in the past. My tastes tend to favor the oak anyway. I've been wondering...

    Strawberry wine

Thanks Hippie, I was leaning that way. The K1-V1116 has a high alcohol tolerance. My wine will be around 12%, I guess I should sorbate at stabilization time, to make sure its dead. What is your reccommendation? Thanks. Archer

    Strawberry wine

I'm making a 1 gal. batch of frozen strawberry wine and wanted to know which yeast to use, and why? I have three options: Red Star primier cuvee Lalvin K1-V1116 Lalvin 71B-1122 I checked out the manufacturers websites, and I see they each have advantages and different alcohol...
