My first batch- Couple of questions...

Thanks for the input. I actually really like the smell, my girlfriend not so much! And yeah, I'm pretty crazy about sanitation even in my every day life so it's a natural extension for wine making! Thanks that's something I haven't done yet, I'll give it a bit of a stir. No yeast nutrient...

My first batch- Couple of questions...

Hello all, I'm making my first kit (Selection International Chilean Malbec/Shiraz with grape skins) I've followed the instructions implicitly, and I've been extremely careful about cleaning (I used oxyclean) then rinsing extremely well and then sanitizing (I used a 3tbps k-meta per gallon of...

    Bulk Aging my first kit...

Well, I could conceivably pick up a kit for measuring SO2 but the ones I've found seem very expensive for only 10 tests... anyone have any experience with good economical options? I'm not hard up for cash or anything (if I was I wouldn't be taking this hobby up) but there's a limit to what...

    Bulk Aging my first kit...

I've been reading around and I'm thinking about giving my first kit (WE Selections International Chilean Malbec/Shiraz w/ Grape Skins) about 90 days of bulk aging before bottling. Will I need to be able to measure SO2 to ensure that my sulfite level is decent enough? If I keep the bottle capped...

WineXpert Good first kit? Red- Malbec or Shiraz preferably

Thanks for the suggestions. I ended up going with the Chilean Malbec/Shiraz with grape skins as I mentioned in another thread. I'm not a huge Merlot fan, so I think the next red I'm going to do is the Selections Int. Argentine Malbec. I do plan to do a Pinot Grigio for my next batch, however!

    WineXpert Chilean Malbec Shiraz

I bit the bullet and ordered this kit. I'm pretty excited to get it. I should have it by the end of the week and I'll get started this weekend. I'd really appreciate if any of you that are working with this kit post anything specific that you find! Woohoo! Can't wait to start making what...

No idea Rocky, and I've asked around, seems no one around here has ever heard of it. (and I asked some old timers!)

Wow, I was totally thinking about making that exact kit. You mind if I ask where you got it from?

    New England/Tri-State Area get together!?

Well, I'm a newbie here, but I'm in Maine, I'd like to meet some other wino forum members! I may not have a batch ready to bring with me, but I could always grab something nice from a local winery!

Thanks for the advice. Maybe I will pick up an extra one! Fortunately the shop is only a few miles from my house, though!

Not a lot of snow right now, but we've had a couple snowfalls recently. I am very much farther south than Moosehead, about 3 hours away!
