added Yeast when I should have added Bentonite

I'm curious, did the fermentation start or did you end up pitching more yeast? I'm sure it went fine, grape juice wants to be wine.

New to wine making and this forum!

Welcome, I'm new here myself. I've always wanted to try making a dandelion wine or mead, but I live in the city and wouldn't know where to find dandelions that haven't been sprayed.

    Nutrients from food items

Joe's Ancient Orange Mead uses an orange and a small hand full of raisins per gallon to provide nutrients, acid, tanins etc. I bet that an orange and raisins would go great with your sweet tea wine. If you haven't tried JAOM you should, all ingredients can be found in the grocery store...

    Wine bottles

No one has mentioned the Nova Twists yet, so I thought I would mention them. I get gifted lots of empty screw top wine bottles. For years I would just cork them like normal. I knew it wasn't ideal, but I never had issues. Since I've discovered the Nova Twists I use them instead of corking...

Canadians - Juice or Wine in Jugs?

Thanks for the tips Spikedlemon. I've never thought of trying Home Hardware, next time I'm at one I will check it out. I live in a big city and I know of 4 brewing stores, plus another in a city just north of me. I just keep reading about Americans buying a gallon of apple juice in a glass jug...

the strange things we will try

That's a great idea! I've thought about doing the same thing using empty one gallon pickle jars (washed well, of course). I was thinking of just drilling a hole in the lid and securing the air lock with food safe silicon caulking. I like that you found a gasket to use, where did you get it...

    Other Experienced Kit Makers Needed.

I'm very relaxed when it comes to kit wines. Once I get it from the bucket to the carboy I really take my time and don't stress about it. It's gets racked when when have time, and usually gets bottled when I need the carboy for another project.

Canadians - Juice or Wine in Jugs?

I've done searches and found advice to get gallon glass jugs by buying wine or apple juice and reuse the jug. I've shopped at several grocery stories (Sobeys, Superstore, Planet Organic, Co Op, Walmart, Costco) and have only seen apple juice in half gallon jugs for about $15, and not all...

    Jaom wow!!!

I really like the JAOM because it can be made without a trip to the wine making store. I've only made one gallon so far, two more are in the works to give for Christmas.

    Mushrooms

This has been an interesting thread. I agree foraging is a bit too scary, but one of these I would like to grow mushrooms. I used to work with a guy who collected office grounds from our office to grow mushrooms in buckets, I would probably do something like this.

RANT: Well, it must be spring in the South!

I'm scared of motorcycles. Here it is illegal to lane split but people do t anyways. I've had several friends have bad accidents with their bikes. It doesn't matter who is at fault, the guy on a motorcycle will take the brunt of it. My husband rides, and I worry about him. Fortunately he is...

Thanks for the link! I live in Calgary, and sometimes drive through or near Red Deer for work or to visit friends. Next time I will check them out.

    Hello from Alberta

It really is a wonderful forum. I've learned so much going through all of the old posts. I'm hearing you about the gas industry. I know quite a few people who've been laid off.

    Hello from Alberta

Hello! I'm a long time lurker who finally decided to make an account. I have been making wine for about 5 years. I mostly do kits, but have started to make country wines and meads as well. I've even made one batch of beer (even though I'm not a huge beer drinker).
