Hi there,
I must say i am very new to wine making.
So i have a basic question about yeast.
Can I use regular baking yeast just for trying it out?
Or do I need the actual wine yeast?

thanks

Matthias

yeasts are not all equal, bakers yeast is not verygood at bringing out the flavors for wine. And the abv tolernce is vary shaky also, 1 ferment will give you 8% and leave your batch with a lot of residual sugar while the next may give you 13% and be very dry with very little flavor. Wine yeast is very cheap and I recommend using it but to each their own.

thanks for the info, I already ordered some =)
I guess im going to have one weak batch

Not all yeast is equal.

if you make two totally similar batches with the only
difference being the yeast you may still have
two wines with different flavor and taste.

Bakers yeast will work and it can do a really good job.

I think I am the only one on this (and some other) forums
that has made a lot of batches with bakers yeast.
it has never disappointed me.

But I did indeed do the test like described above
and there was indeed a noticeable taste difference.
In fact a lot of people liked the wine made with bakers yeast
better as that made with wine-yeast.
